F. P. Caillet is an urban elementary schooled situated in the north side of Dallas, Texas. Our school serves students who consistently are the highest academic achievers in the District, and we have received National Recognition. Outstanding achievement is demonstrated in spite of coming from impoverished homes, limited access to resources, and 80%+ are second language learners. Most students at Caillet Elementary live in apartments with little or no daily access to "green" access, and certainly have little opportunity to grow gardens. When the Garden Club was proposed, immediately, 52 eager, willing to work, 3rd5th grade students signed up, and have worked industriously to turn the inner courtyard of the school into a stimulating place for engagement, activity, and learning. Now, 65 students are enrolled in the club, and are demonstrating the best of character through their desire to grow something wonderful!
