This project will primarily benefit the students that are in my Intervention/Enrichment Course, which is a type of study skills class where we help students work on core literary and math skills. Many students have a hard time feeling invested in the time they have in this class. They don't like to read, find math boring, and feel like this class is not worth their time. Our goal is to find a book that will get students sucked into its pages. "Life As We Knew It" by Susan Beth Pfeffer is written in the perspective of a 16 year old girl living through a world wide level catastrophe. Our goal with this project is to learn the science behind catastrophic events such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanoes. We will explore what would actually happen to the to the earth if an asteroid actually hit the moon, just like in the moon? Can our 8th graders learn to survive in a world without technology?! Your donation will help us engage our students in a fun and interesting month long project where they will explore environmental catastrophes, how to prepare for them, how to prevent the most damage, and how people can live after they happen. They will integrate Language Arts, Math, Science, and History as they work through end of the world scenarios.
