Spring Cleaning!
Funded Jul 4, 2019Thank you so much for the lysol cleaning wipes. They have helped make my classroom much healthier. I was able to clean all the students' desk, inside and out. That helped eliminate much of the dust, debris, and even paint chips that accumulated on the desks over the summer. In addition to the desks, I was also able to disinfect the keyboards to the computers that were also covered in germs and dust. This saved the students from having to breath those particles.
In addition to beginning to the year cleaning, we have also been able to use these wipes to clean our desks after completing an art project. Thank you so much for keeping my students healthy and our classroom clean.”

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter!
Funded May 9, 2019Thank you so much for the collection of Harry Potter books. My students were beyond excited when they saw the big box arrive in our classroom. As I took out each book one by one, the smiles on my students' faces grew wider each time.
I put the books out during our reading time and they were all checked out within five minutes. At the end of two weeks, several of my students had completed reading the first two books in the series. It was highly impressive as the books are at middle school reading levels and my fourth grade students were reading successfully on their own and able to comprehend everything.
These books also helped my students learn that many times the books are different than the movies. We had many lively discussions about the similarities and difference between the first Harry Potter book in the series and the the movie. Many students thought it should be "against the law" to make the movie different than the book and other students like the differences because it makes the movie "more interesting."
Thank you again for bringing so much excitement and learning to my students.”

Headphone for Fluency!
Funded Apr 4, 2019Thank you so much for your generous contribution to my classroom. The students are very excited to have new headphones. They have commented how comfortable the new headphones are compared to the old ones. They have also stated that the sound quality is much better when they are on the iPad completing reading, and math assignments. Lastly, the students love that they are adjustable because the previous headphones were a "one size" fits all and unfortunately they did not fit everyone. Thank you so much for bringing joy to my students and aiding their learning in the classroom.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Verizon and one other donor.Ready, Set, Write!
Funded Feb 28, 2019Thank you so much for donating to my classroom. Having all these pencils and paper to write with has made a positive, meaningful impact right from the moment I received the box and opened it. We were able to use the pencils right away. As you probably know by now, pencils are teachers number one asked for resource because they are so critical to everyday learning.
By donating to my class, you have ensured that everyone has access to a pencil everyday for the rest of the school year and even for my students next year. Thank you so much for taking this burden off my students and their families.”

Help Fill Our Library!
Funded Mar 1, 2019Thank you so for creating a love of reading among my students. When we received the large package, I opened it with the students and we went through each book and I read the back cover to them. The students expressed so much excitement and kept saying, "oh I want to read that one and that one too." It was very exciting for them and made me happy to see them excited about reading.
The students will use these books for independent reading and also to practice their reading skills. Some reading skills the students are working on is determining theme by identifying the plot, inferencing, summarizing large chapters, and many other skills.
Donors, you have inspired my students to read and enjoy reading and for that I am very thankful!”

Informed and Aware!
Funded Dec 5, 2018Thank you so much for the "Time for kids" Magazine subscription. The students are very excited to receive a new magazine each week and read about current events in a way that they can understand. Every Friday, the students spend thirty minutes reading reading the magazines and then we spend time discussing certain topics that the students feel strongly about. For example, we spent a lot of time talking about the government shutdown as it impacted two students in my class. The students were able to read the edition about the government shut down and get real facts about what is actually happening. Then the 2 students whose family members were fur-lowed because of the government shut down were able to share their personal experiences and feelings. It was a great lesson because the students were able to learn how someone who is experiencing something has different opinions than someone who just read about that same experience. The students also wrote about the government shut down using their newly learned facts and we had an important discussions about news sources and how to tell when a source is credible. Thank you so much for bringing learning alive in my classroom every week!”

Storage, Storage, Storage!
Funded Feb 22, 2019Thank you so much for the storage bins and containers. We have been busy cleaning and organizing all the supplies in the classroom, so that everything is neat an accessible to the students. The clear bins help us see what is in each bin so that allows the students to quickly get what they need. The students also learned many lessons from getting these storage supplies. The first lesson was that obviously we need to be neat and organized in order to have a successful learning environment. The second lesson was categorizing supplies in the most efficient way to store certain supplies together. For example, the students put all the art supplies together in one bin. Another lesson was how and where do we store the bins for easy access. All in all, organizing our classroom has caused them to think about organizing their bedrooms at home and inspired many to help their parents clean.”

Obsessed With Dahl!
Funded Mar 1, 2019Thank you so much for contributing to our class library. Ronald Dahl is my students' favorite author. You might know him too! He has written famous stories that are now classic movies, such as "Matilda", and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."
With all the exciting Ronal Dahl titles we have received the students were excited to know that there are others titles, Dahl has written that are also equally interesting, but are not yet movies. Those are the books that many students are really excited to read, the unknown ones. Thank you again for bringing all this excited about Ronald Dahl to my classroom and making the students enjoy reading again!”

Chairs to Success!
Funded Feb 9, 2019Thank you so much for donating these comfortable chairs to my students. The students are using the chairs during their iPad time. The students go on the iPad twice a week once for math and once for reading. Before the chairs, the students sat on the hard, uncomfortable floor. Many students didn't look forward to their iPad time because they were not learning in a way that was comfortable to them.
Now with the chairs, they are focused and excited about learning reading and math on the iPad. They are comfortable and no longer complaining about their bottom's hurting. Most students cannot wait until they get to sit on the chairs. Thank you so much for bringing joy to our reading and math time!”

Who Inspires Me?
Funded Jan 30, 2019Thank you so much for your generous donation. You have definitely sparked a love of reading in my classroom. The students were so excited to receive these new books. So far, these books have helped me teach my students that they can be anything they want if they put their mind to it and work hard. For example, one of the books is about the story of Sonia Sotomayor, the Supreme Court Justice, many of the young ladies in my class couldn't believe that someone who speaks Spanish from the Bronx has such an important job. They read about her life and were shocked to see that they have very similar childhoods. Those students definitely believe now that they can do anything they dream. This is just one example of how these books have inspired some of my students and we cannot wait to really dig into the other books as well.”
