Everyday my students are glued to the books they are reading. On average, they finish a chapter book a week and are eager to find another one to dive into. The only problem is, I'm running out of books they haven't read and I do not have the higher level books to challenge my advanced readers. With the addition of these books to our classroom library not only will my students have more variety to choose from, but they will be introduced to literacy elements they will be excited to learn about. First, these books will be used during our weekly book talks, monthly book clubs and during small group instruction. My advanced students will be challenged through the text elements these books provided as well as talking about the books with enthusiasm and excitement. As a result of the excitement and enthusiasm the advanced student’s exhibit, it will motivate more students to challenge themselves so they too can read and talk about the books. As a bonus, research shows that the more students talk about books they read, the more they comprehend in all subjects. How can you beat that? Secondly, these books will be used in correlation with our schools reading program, Accelerated Reader. Through Accelerated Reader and these books, my students will track their reading levels, test their comprehension and watch their scores rise with pride.
