My school is in the center of South Los Angeles, a predominantly African American and Latino community. The majority of these students come from families that face many challenges on the daily basis. My particular group of students are English Language Learners. These students are motivated to learn even though, the English Language is a challenge for them. I wanted to offer my students the opportunity to read great books that will not only help them learn the language, but also introduce them to critical themes and topics.
