  • Healthy Bodies, Stronger Minds

    Funded Feb 25, 2025

Thank you for your donation to our project! Your donation will help our students in their journey in physical education; this will help them connect to school, life, and with each other. Thank you for believing in them and supporting them as we continuing on this journey together. They are very excited to hear that this project has been funded!”

  • Growing Vegetables and Responsibility

    Funded Mar 5, 2024

When the boxes began to show up at our classroom door, the students were surprised. They asked where they were coming from and who was sending them. I explained what I had done and how people throughout the our world community believed in them and the garden project. They were surprised and thankful! I opened the boxes and showed them what was inside each one. They understood the idea of the buckets and gloves and watering cans, but the idea of drip irrigation was new to many. We have started to talk about it and plan the idea out and are waiting on some other supplies from other sources within our local community before we tackle that aspect of our project.

The students have already started to use the gloves and buckets to work within the garden and have used the watering cans during our leadership meetings. They are very excited to use the supplies and to take ownership over this plot of land! Thank you for supporting this project and for providing a different avenue for students to connect to school. You are helping to foster a different connection to both school and to real-world applications between school and life.”

  • Showing Our Thinking in Math

    Funded Sep 20, 2023

Thank you for your generous support to our "Showing our Thinking in Math" project. We received the last of the supplies this past week, and the markers came just as the first quarter ended and we needed to replace our supply! The students were VERY excited to receive new markers, to start to create math posters, and they have been using the tape to hang posters in the room. The clear tape was immediately put to use as they taped items into their math journals and onto the walls.

Your generous support is helping students build not only their math skills but also their language skills. By working together, students have to use academic language to communicate their thinking and to agree / disagree with each other. This has been essential for both our English Learner and English only students and is an important 21st century skill.

Our students were VERY excited that individuals from the community believed in them and were willing to help purchase supplies to support their learning! When the supplies arrived, there were quite a few "wow" comments being whispered throughout the room. It was wonderful to see them understand that there are others invested in their education!”

  • Active Bodies, Active Minds

    Funded Aug 3, 2023

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Your donations towards our "Active Bodies, Active Minds" have impacted numerous students within our classroom this year! The chair bands are constantly in use, and the sensory stickers are on every desk in the classroom. The students have learned to use the sensory stickers when they take a "belly breath" to help calm their minds and thinking, and some students have asked to have a sensory sticker to take to use in their general classrooms.

The stress balls and fidget toys have been a great addition to our fidget bin, and students are learning to use them when they need an item to help them within the math classroom. These tools, along with the wiggle seats that we already have, have been a great addition to our classroom. Students who visit our room often ask if they can take a tool back to their room, and we have shared a few of the items as needed. Your donations are greatly appreciated.”

  • Hands-on Learning for Perimeter and Area

    Funded Aug 3, 2023

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Your donations towards this project were greatly appreciated! The students were VERY excited to see the new math manipulatives and to begin to explore some of our concepts for perimeter and area. We actually pulled them out earlier than expected and used them for graphing on the coordinate plane with some of the older students, and it helped to solidify some rather abstract concepts such as absolute value, distance, and grids.

Your donation to our classroom project has helped math come alive within our classroom and make learning hands-on. Students remark that the learning is easier and "sticks" more when they do hands-on tasks within math. Your donation has impacted many students this year and will continue to impact more in the years to come.”

  • Bringing Algebra to Life to the Middles

    Funded Jan 23, 2023

Thank you for your generous support to this project! The algebra tiles arrived the week before our 6th grade math group started to study equations, so the timing was perfect. We added the tiles to the math bins that sit in the center of our groups so that they are available for student use at any time. Students immediately started to use them once they understood how to use them.

The tiles have made a difference in their understanding of an abstract concept. We were able to use the larger tiles on a magnetic whiteboard and show our thinking that way, argue about whether we agree / disagree (with respect, of course!), and explain our thinking with concerete evidence. Students were able to take the physical aspect of moving the tiles on their desk and then apply that thinking to the written equations.

As new students joined our math group, the students who used the tiles shared their understanding of the of why the math works the way it does, and they were confident in their explanations. Such a simple manipulative has made a big impact in their learning!”

  • Social Emotional Supports for our Active Learners

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

Thank you for your generous support! When the supplies arrived to our classroom, the students were excited. They wanted to know what was in the boxes, so I told them but I said that they would have to wait until the next day to see so everything that I could get all of it ready.

When they entered the room the next day and they saw new chair bands on the chairs that had been missing them, the calm strips on the desk, and the calming corner, they were excited and shocked. They wanted to know where the supplies came from and I explained it came from people outside of our area, from around the United States, who cared about them and wanted to invest in them. We had a discussions about why people would care about them, why people want to invest in their education and future, and how we can show others how thankful we are. We talked about "paying it forward" and how we could do that within our own school community.

Thank you for investing in our students. Your support is appreciated and the supplies will be well loved and used.”

  • Demystifying Clocks and Geometry

    Funded Sep 16, 2022

Thank you for your generous donation to our classroom! Because of your support, we are able to have manipulatives that will make learning about time and geometry a hands-on, concrete topic and not something that is abstract.

Your support means a lot to the students and to me. When I explained to the students that the supplies were provided by people outside of the classroom, and even outside of the state, they were surprised. Some asked why someone would do that for them or why someone who did not know them would help them out. It provided an opportunity for us to have a class meeting about investing in our future, how others want to support them, and how we can go about 'paying it forward."

Thank you for investing in our classroom. The concepts that these supplies will support are often very challenging, and by having manipulatives that we can work with, that we can hold in our hands and "see" the math with, will help. Students will have opportunities to grow in their math, their verbal skills, and in their social emotional skills as we continue to reflect on where these supplies came from.”

  • Figuring Out Why Math Works

    Funded May 3, 2022

Thank you for investing in our amazing math explorers! Your donation helped to build our math group toolkits so that all students in our classroom have access to math manipulatives. These manipulatives are essential in helping students understand WHY math works; when a student understands that, they deepen their understanding of math and they often are more willing to share their own thinking. Because of your donation, I was able to create group math toolkits and a small group math toolkit that students have access to throughout all math lessons.

Thank you for investing in our math explorers!”

  • Fractions in Our Hands: Bringing Fraction Manipulatives to Our Classroom

    Funded Jun 30, 2022

Thank you for supporting our amazing math explorers! Your donation helped to bring fraction tiles and other fraction supplies to our math classroom. I was able to create fraction tile kits for all students to have at their desks for ready access, and our small group table has access to fraction towers and magnetic tiles that can be used on our small group whiteboard. The supplies that your donation helped to fund will be used throughout the school year as we grow in our understanding of fractions. This topic is often confusing because students just memorize rules or procedures, but their understanding deepens when they grasp why math happens. The supplies that your donation funded will help create this "why" environment, and I greatly appreciate that.

    Thank you for your support!”

Distance learning is a blend of old tech and new tech; a combination of hands-on learning and virtual learning. My students will be using the donated supplies to construct the resource section of their distance learning binders. These binders will become part of their learning environment at home. In our normal classroom, students work in groups and have access to group supplies that they regularly use and which include items such as tape, whiteboards, staplers, glue, markers/highlighters, scissors, etc. The resource section of our distance learning binders will take those supplies and transfer them to the home environment. As the students participate in virtual lessons, they can take draw out conceptual math models on their whiteboards. They can use the pencils and highlighters to take annotated notes while reading digital text so that they are prepared for our academic discussions. The glue sticks can be used to place items that students create or find into their interactive science notebooks and then digital photos of those pages can be shared with the rest of the class. Access to these classroom resources will help all students have the opportunity to be successful in their at home learning.
