  • Eco and Garden Club SOAP-rises

    Funded May 7, 2024

The Garden and Eco Club students came together for our last meeting of the school year in May and we made some decorative, floral soaps. Students got to pour their own soap, dye it, scent it, add petals, and then decorate some packaging with stamps and flowers from our school garden. This was a really fun activity for the students to nurture their love for nature and do a wellness activity at the end of the year, when they need it most. The students also had to use their inquiry skills as the first time we did this the soaps seemed to set too quickly to add decorative touches. We actually did this twice and the students figured out some new strategies of what worked best with the small time frame of a lunch period. I really enjoyed seeing the students troubleshoot and create. Thanks so much for your donation and support for the resources to bring this project to life. The students really had a lot of fun and appreciated the materials for their activity and spending time with their friends. Can't wait for the upcoming school year to see their next idea.”

  • A Peony for Your Thoughts

    Funded Mar 26, 2024

Thank you so much for all of the materials that support my Eco and Garden Club's community service and service learning projects. The button machine was a big hit and the students know how to use it now. The club presidents made their own club buttons and had several different designs. Club members got to pick which ones they liked and make them. For Earth Day the students designed their own Earth Day pin by drawing and coloring what they wanted to on their buttons. On Earth Day each student that participated helped plant a tree at our local government center where they also learned about native gardens, solar panels, and green business practices. We planted our flower seeds and they are growing nicely. We checked on them yesterday and they're about 6-8 inches tall. No flower buds yet though. The watering olla has been a huge help since sometimes we go on spring break so all the kids do is fill up the terracotta watering olla before they go on break and the stored water has kept our sweet peas alive. The soap making has been a fun activity. We have found with some trial and error which flower petals look best in the soaps. In the next two weeks we are going to be harvesting more flowers from our garden to take decorate the outside of our soaps and wrap it with recycled paper.”

  • Science Class Needs More Color

    Funded Mar 27, 2024

Thank you so much for the art materials. Even in science classes, students still need a variety of art supplies. With all of the art materials students were able to make a geological timeline showing all of Earth's history main events. They also assembled the timeline that was about 5 feet long with scissors and glue. When we were learning about biological molecules students created their own super hero comic strips. We also created and assembled a marine food web that show cased the intricate feeding relationships surrounding the beloved sea otter. With all of our garden projects the students enjoy making a colorful plant tag to name and identify their plants. We also painted a handful of rocks and placed them around our class's compost garden tree. Thank you so much for the thoughtful donation and making our biology classes pop with color. I always put up their student work in our classroom and even outside in the hallway to showcase all of the creative project my students make.”

  • Basic Lab Needs

    Funded Sep 3, 2023

Thank you so much donating more lab equipment to my class. This year being at a new school I am teaching some different things. My co-taught special education biology class was in desperate need of more plastic labware like plastic beakers, cylinders and plastic trays. These were so helpful in doing other labs where dropping items would not break. The trays made it helpful to carry lab equipment around the room for my students. A new quarter has started and we will be using the lab equipment again for our enzyme labs. Thank you so much!”

  • Botany Plants Lately?

    Funded Sep 7, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous support. This project took a little bit longer to carry out. In the past with our other hydroponics system we only grew herbs like basil, cilantro, and sage. Those were pretty fast growing so students got some instant gratification. This year was the first year my students wanted to grow peppers and tomatoes indoors. With the new hydroponics systems you so generously gave us my students finally got their first peppers! Growing veggies and fruits indoors took a lot longer than we thought. We had a lot more success with our pepper plants that are now 3 feet tall in January. We started them from seed in September. I think in a week we will be picking our first pepper and make our first salsa. It only took 4 months! Some of my students were getting a little impatient but they learned how to hand pollinate flowers and try a different variety of methods between q-tips and paint brushes. Our garden beds are painted and look so cute. We also have been using the manual grass cutter to trim the grass of our garden space. Our next project is to start growing strawberries in our nearly decorated garden beds. I am currently working with a local grower to donate some strawberries. We are excited! Thank you so much for helping us start an indoor garden and brighten up our little garden space patch. The staff at my school have compliment my students on what a great job they're doing. It really helps with their self esteem and pride.”

  • Photosynthesis Models and Stencil Templates

    Funded Sep 20, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous support. I love using resources from teacherpayteachers. There are so many creative paper models that my students love to use. We built a 3D model of a leaf to learn about photosynthesis. My students also used some templates to draw on our garden beds. It was easy for them to follow along and trace. My special needs students need a variety of manipulatives to help them understand difficult scientific concepts. We dissected a frog in December and my students also built a 3D model that showed all of the different body systems to help them learn and identify all of the organs. Thank you so much!”

  • A Clockwork Storage

    Funded Sep 3, 2023

Thank you so much the generous donations to my class project. My lab assistants helped assemble and organize the stands and storage space. We also started putting the beakers and hot plates on the shelves along with some of the microscopes. My student use the storage shelves and platforms weekly when they need to get lab equipment for their labs. This has been a huge help with both organization and accomplishing the labs.

My students were really excited to see the new shelving instead of getting their lab equipment from boxes on the floor.”

  • Alternatives to Dissection and Plant Propagation Materials

    Funded May 9, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donation and always supporting me over the years. My students really loved putting together the 3D paper models of the organisms. We also used them as a way to learn about the animals before some students dissected them. Other students chose to only do the paper model and some only did the dissection. I really like to provide different pathways to learning to suit multiple types of learners. One of our favorite projects this year was the propagation project. We were so lucky to have a large donation of succulents. My good friend so kindly donated a ton of cuttings. The students learned about why plants callus and then shoot out some roots. We successfully propagated 30 succulents. We also learned to propagate our indoor houseplants. The students loved separating the colonies of the Chinese Money Plant. They were hoping the plant would bring them good fortune. The plant project really brought so much joy to my students. It was a highlight of the year. Thank you so much.”

  • Lunar New Year Plants to Bring Good Luck

    Funded Dec 28, 2022

Thank you so much for your support and generous donation. My students learned about how to take care of tropical plants and the significance they hold in Chinese culture in regards to Lunar New year. They learned how to propagate each other plants and take care of it. We continued to use the vegepod throughout the year as it became a home to our broccoli, kale, tomatoes, and peppers. The vegepod served as a great space to lett some of our veggies flourish. This project helped foster their love of learning about botany and also how it can help their mental well being. I shared with my students how many of the plants selected were meant to bring good fortune, luck and prosperity. We really had a fun time with this. Thank you!”

  • R.I.P. Boiling Water, You Will Be Mist

    Funded Sep 20, 2022

Thank you so much for supplying my students with much needed lab equipment. Having access to ice is so important for a science class since some of the reagents need to be kept on ice. Today we had just did our DNA extraction lab and our ethanol alcohol for the reaction to precipitate needed to be on ice. In addition, we have used the ice machine and freezer for our enzyme labs. Many of our enzymes needed to be kept on ice as well in order to work. We also have been using the mini scales quite frequently. They are very handy and the added bonus that they can be charged up instead of plugging in all the time is great. Thank you so much!”
