  • Preserved Specimens, Dissection Tools, and Classroom Basics

    Funded Mar 24, 2025

Thank you so much for getting these items for my science classes. Can't wait to teach our physiology unit. It is always a student favorite. Can't wait to update you with photos of the students using all of the specimens. Also, we will be really excited to use the new scissors and tweezers to replace our old ones. Eco and Garden Club will enjoy all the dyes. Can't wait to see what old clothes they find at their homes or at the thrift store to upcycle. Lastly, we appreciate the cleaning supplies so we can keep our space clean. Thank you so much!”

  • An Organized Student Supply Center

    Funded Mar 4, 2025

Thank you so much for the organizational materials. I wish I had taken a before photo to show you the make over and the difference you made in my classroom. In the photos I attached you can see an organized student supply space with vertical storage of markers, highlighters, and colored pencils. There are also wall file folders where students can get hand outs. The paper, colored pencils, sharpies, and markers were extremely important for our biological molecules comic book project. The projects turned out phenomenal with vibrant colors. I taped them up in our hallway and students that I don't teach were complimenting how great these were. My students love the ceiling covers so much. The classroom I am in gets decent light from our window but we do need a little overhead. The fluorescent light is just not appealing and there is no dimmer. It sort of reminds you of a dated 1980s classroom. The ceiling covers are the perfect solution to cover up the eye sores and create an ambiance that is inviting and nurturing. My students love coming to class.”

  • It's Owl Good

    Funded Jan 19, 2025

Thank you so much for the Owl Pellet Lab Kit and materials. My environmental science students had so much fun doing this lab. They were talking about it all week. My environmental science class is a group of unique students. They have struggled in the past biology and chemistry but are committed to turning things around their junior and senior year. It's been so rewarding to see them grow so much and be engaged. They loved learning about owls and their behavior adaptations. They were truly amazing going through the pellets and finding all the bones of creatures the owl ate. It was sort of like a treasure hunt. After they collected all the bones they had to put bones under the stereoscope to make observations and see them up close. Then at the end they got to sterilize the bones and glue them on a nice card board mount to showcase their hard work. This project really meant so much to this group of students and I know they will remember it forever. I used the Teachers Pay Teachers gift card to purchase some great lessons and diagrams about biological molecules. My 9th graders loved all the color coding to help them better understand carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. For their culminating project, they had to create a super heroes based on 4 biological molecules of life. Next week my biology students are going to be learning about the Cell Cycle, Meiosis and Mitosis. My environmental science students will be learning about invasive species.”

  • Science Class Needs Science Labs

    Funded Nov 11, 2024

Sorry for the delay but we used some of the resources in the fall and just finished up our plant lab last week. We used the monoculars in our field study to Coal Oil Point Reserve to do a bird survey. We have also been using them to look out our classroom window because we are on the second floor and sometimes I'll have the students play eye spy and see if we can see any birds hanging out in the eucalyptus trees. We also use them around campus and sometimes we focus on objects far way to just get better practice at using them. My AP Biology class used the Sickle Cell Lab to learn about biotechnology and how it is used in research and health care. The students acted like medical professionals trying to help a family that has a history of Sickle Cell disease. They were able to run a gel electrophoresis lab and micropipette their samples. The Sickle Cell lab is one of my favorite ones because the students really feel like a biologist and they feel like they're a medical professional. My 9th grade honors biology just wrapped up their Genetics Lab series where they used Wisconsin Fast Plants lab kits to trace the inheritance of a trait in a plant family. They also learned to do punnett squares with their plant data which I think they felt was pretty fun. The students are currently growing their plants still and I think in one more week they should be able to collect seeds from the pods. When the seeds were germinating we put them under the stereoscope so we could see the root hairs and purple and green stem trait. We have been using the field guides and they have been a great help and addition to the class.”

  • Field Guides and Books for Science

    Funded Nov 12, 2024

Thank you so much for the field guides. We went on our field trip and were able to use the various field guides to identify a variety of birds and plants. We even found a snake skin shed. The students had so much fun identifying all the plants and animals we found on our field trip to Coal Oil Point. We hiked about 5 miles in several different ecosystems. We had a little game of which group could identify the most animal and plant species. Whichever group won got to get a prize. We can't wait to use the field guides for our next excursion in May when we go to the botanical garden and nature hike.”

  • You Won't Egret This

    Funded Nov 3, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous donation and helping fulfill our class project. We just got back from our field study. The students learned about the birds of Coal Oil Point Nature Reserve and Devereux Slough. We started the day off by looking at the salt marsh where students used the monoculars, clip boards, and field guides to identify as many birds as possible. We then hiked to a bluff where we saw many shore birds. We also hiked to a pond and we saw more ducks. We traversed about 5 miles on our bird excursion and we saw so many different types of birds in different ecosystems (sandy beach, salt mash, estuary, ponds, ocean). Some of our class favorites were the snowy egret, the great egret, the great blue heron, cormorants, hummingbirds, red-tail hawks, turkey vultures, pelicans, snowy plovers and a willet. It was absolutely magical and the views were breath taking. We were so fortunate to have amazing weather. The clip boards were perfect to fit in their back packs and the added storage space held their pencils and notes. The waterproof field guides were perfect because sometimes students dropped it but there was no damage. The monoculars were such a great tool for them to learn how to use. My class is hooked on bird watching. I hope I can take them out again.”

  • Year of the Snake

    Funded Jan 22, 2025

Thank you so much for the decorations, button accessories, fortune cookies, and craft papers. My students loved all the decorations. My senior lab assistants helped assemble and put together all of the lanterns. We attached them to the ceiling and added the cherry blossom lanterns by our window. We learned about various snake species because it is Year of the Snake. I also taught the students about the unique traditions and celebrations my culture does to celebrate. The students created their snake buttons and proudly displayed them on their back packs. They also enjoyed creating an origami fortune cookie and exchanging them with other students.”

  • Let's Turnip the Beet

    Funded Nov 13, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous donation for the hydroponics farmstand and supplies. My senior lab assistants set it up for me. The accessories like the wheel stand they also assembled and put together. This was a student built and student led project. Students in my clubs and classes also harvested their vegetables. Their favorites were the lettuce heads and fresh herbs. I enjoyed seeing what vegetables they liked. Turns out students don't like arugula but they all tried it. We are looking forward to the spring crop of veggies and foods. My students are interested in edible flowers and using them for other projects. My students have embraced fresh vegetables.”

  • Good Chives Only

    Funded Oct 21, 2024

Thank you so much for the watering ollas. They have been such a great help. We planted some seeds and also planted some tiny establish sweet pea seedlings we started indoors during class. We also got another big seed donation because we didn't use all of the watering ollas yet but we are going to finish setting up the beds next week. We wanted to test them out first and so far the sweet pea seem very established 10 days later. Next week my students are going to use the rest of the watering ollas in these little flower pot tubs that a person in the community gave us. We wanted to make sure that the set up worked and was sufficient for sustaining the sweet peas. Thanks again! My students in Garden Club really appreciate it.”
