Grade Level Math + Games = Engaged Students
Funded Mar 1, 2020In March before our school year was cut short, we were fortunate enough to receive a donation of math games for our classroom. These games were such a huge hit! Often, math is feared, students get extremely frustrated if they don't understand it. It was really important for me to try to get these games for my students. I wanted them to find the joy in math and I know they did. They were so excited when the games came in and begged to play math bingo for fun Friday. The boy's especially loved the Pop to Win! Math game. It was great to see the students so engaged.
Math is a subject that has to be practiced continuously so that it will not be forgotten. These games allow for students to practice what they have learned, long after we have moved onto a new chapter. Additionally, they are able to work in groups and have deep discussions about solving problems. I am thrilled that so many future classes will be able to utilize these games for years to come.
Thank you so much to the donors who took time out of their day to find classrooms to support. Please know that there were 30 students in North Philadelphia who truly benefited from your kindness. Again, thank you.”

Funded Dec 18, 2019Bringing in flexible seating to our classroom has been such a big hit! In our centers table in the back, students had to bring their own chair every time they were called back. Now, students are able to sit in our wobbly stools. They love being called to the back table.
You also donated an inflatable ball and inflatable cushions. These 4 items are saved for our group of the day who have access to them throughout the week. Students are eager to use them so they try their best to win the weekly competition.
Last but not least, our beach chairs have been placed in our library area for our readers to use. Students love the variety of options and I love that they can't wait to come into class.
To us, different seating may not be a big deal, however, to children who have to sit for 8 hours, they make all the difference.
Thank you so much for making a difference in their lives and in the lives of my future students.”

Funded Aug 14, 2019Your purchase of headphones for my classroom has been extremely helpful! Students were advised to bring headphones on the first day of school and only about 4 out of 31 did. I am glad that I was able to receive some as we use them everyday.
Every morning after our math lesson they are able to get on a math website to reinforce our lesson for that day. The websites generally require volume, which could be disturbing to many without headphones. My students love computer time and are able to escape to a place with no distractions, which can be difficult when you're in 4th grade. They are able to get on Google classroom and listen to their choice of music as they work on their writing.
I have a particular student who is very vocal; he can barely stay in his seat and has trouble focusing. These headphones allow him to stay in the zone and stay concentrated on his work. Without these headphones we'd truly be in trouble. I appreciate every single one of you who believed in our project and helped bring it to life. 31 students and 1 teacher in an inner city Philadelphia school are extremely grateful for your generosity.”

Funded Jun 4, 2019In the beginning of the school year you were gracious enough to purchase supplies that were needed in my classroom.
As a first year teacher we are not provided with much. I did not know what my new room had but I did know that I would need paper, and that the markers and glue dry out quickly so I should stock up. I knew that I would need a class set of scissors and that I would need a heavy-duty sharpener. I knew that pencils would get lost, stolen or would get smaller and smaller. Finally, I also knew that I did not have enough money to purchase all of these items. With your gracious donations, I was able to prepare for my new classroom and provide students with the necessary supplies for success.
Today my students are able to sharpen their pencils and color in the worksheets that I printed with all of the copy paper you donated. We appreciate each one of you that donated to this cause, from the bottom of our hearts- thank you!”

Funded May 6, 2019Everyday my students walk into the room, they eat breakfast and they are provided with time to read independently. They use this time to go to our classroom library and check out any books. Being a first year teacher, I did not have a lot of books to provide. The classroom had a few books, Babe, Charlotte's Web and many books that were torn or did not have their cover. Because of donors like you I was able to choose books specifically for my classroom.
My students come from various backgrounds, some from Puerto Rico, some from India and some from China. It was important for me to choose books that represented the many cultures that are in my classroom. There weren't any books for my African American boys and no books for my Hispanic girls. That all changed with your help. I was able to purchase books such as "The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind" and biographies from girls like Malala and Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
On the first day of school my students came in and were immediately impressed with the library that was created just for them, with pillows and a rug all donated by you.
Today, my library is often empty from the children borrowing all of the books, but it is a negative that I welcome whole-heartedly.
The impact that you have made in my classroom will never be forgotten. We appreciate you helping us be represented in the books that we read everyday.”
