I hope this letter finds you in great spirits. On behalf of my students and myself, I am writing to express our deepest gratitude for your generous support and funding of our recent project and several others in the past. As a special education teacher working in a resource classroom, I witness firsthand the transformative impact your contributions have on the lives of my students every day.

Your funding has allowed us to embark on innovative projects that cater specifically to the diverse learning needs of my students. The resources we have been able to acquire through your generosity have truly made a difference. From adaptive learning tools to sensory materials and educational technology, these resources have enriched our classroom environment, making it a more engaging and effective space for learning.

The students have shown remarkable progress, and their enthusiasm for learning has soared. For many of them, traditional learning methods pose significant challenges, but the tools and materials funded by the Berkeley Foundation have unlocked new avenues for understanding and engagement. It's heartwarming to see their faces light up when they grasp a new concept or complete a project using these resources.

Your commitment to education and inclusivity has not only benefited our classroom but has also set a powerful example for our school community. Your dedication to supporting special education initiatives highlights the importance of providing equitable learning opportunities for all students, regardless of their individual challenges. It is inspiring to know that there are organizations like yours that believe in the potential of every student and are willing to invest in their futures.

The impact of your support extends beyond the classroom walls. It fosters a sense of confidence and independence in my students that they carry into their daily lives. For many, the skills they develop here will serve as a foundation for lifelong learning and personal growth. Your contributions have empowered them to believe in themselves and their abilities, and for that, I am deeply grateful.

Your generosity has also inspired my colleagues and me to continue seeking new and creative ways to enhance our teaching practices. With the confidence that comes from knowing we have your support, we are motivated to push the boundaries of traditional education and explore innovative approaches that cater to the needs of each student. Your funding has become a catalyst for positive change, motivating us to strive for excellence in every project we undertake.

Once again, I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Berkeley for your unwavering support and generosity. Your contributions have made a significant difference in the lives of my students and have provided them with opportunities they might not have otherwise had. The impact of your kindness will be felt for years to come, and I am truly appreciative for everything you have done for us.

We look forward to sharing the continued progress and successes of our students, made possible by your support. Thank you for believing in our mission and for helping us create a nurturing and empowering environment for all our learners.”

    With gratitude,

  • Resource Room: Dictionaries Strong Vocabulary Builds Strong Reading Skills!

    Funded Dec 3, 2024

I am reaching out with a heart full of gratitude for your incredible generosity in donating a classroom set of dictionaries to our special education resource classroom through Donors Choose. Your thoughtfulness has truly made a difference, and I want to share just how impactful your gift will be for our students.

The addition of these dictionaries means so much more than just new books on a shelf. They represent an opportunity for our students to enhance their literacy skills, which is essential for their academic journey and growth. With these resources, our students can explore new words, understand their meanings, and connect language to their experiences. This kind of engagement is vital for building their confidence in reading and writing.

Your kindness also ignites a sense of curiosity in our classroom. These dictionaries are not just tools; they are gateways to exploring new ideas and concepts. They encourage our students to ask questions and delve deeper into the world of language. This curiosity is a crucial part of their development, helping them grow into lifelong learners eager to discover more.

Lastly, I want you to know that your support extends beyond our classroom. By investing in our students' education, you are helping to shape the future of our community. As they grow and develop their skills, they will be better equipped to contribute positively to society, creating a ripple effect of goodness that your generosity has ignited.

On behalf of myself, our students, and their families, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness. Your belief in our students' potential means the world to us, and we are excited to witness the progress they will make with these dictionaries. We look forward to sharing their successes with you in the future.”

  • Resource Room: Monthly Literacy Snacks!

    Funded Aug 28, 2024

I truly appreciate your generous contribution to my classroom! Your support has made a significant impact, allowing us to purchase a wonderful selection of books for our monthly literacy snack. The students are going to be absolutely thrilled when they see the new additions to our reading corner!

Your kindness not only enriches our classroom but also fosters a love for reading among the students. It reminds me of a special moment from my childhood that has stayed with me all these years. I vividly recall a day when my teacher went above and beyond to create a magical experience for us. She prepared green eggs and ham, inspired by Dr. Seuss's beloved story, and we all gathered around, excited and curious. As we explored the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss, the combination of delicious food and engaging storytelling made for a truly memorable experience.

That day sparked my passion for reading and creativity, and I hope to create similar moments for my students. Your contribution helps make that possible, and I am incredibly grateful for your support. Thank you once again for believing in the power of education and for helping to inspire the next generation of readers!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. DePriest

  • Resource Classroom: Learning to Read!

    Funded Apr 19, 2024

This project has been a transformative gateway for my students, igniting not only a deeper love for reading but also fostering a more dynamic learning environment. With the introduction of new texts into our curriculum, we've been able to explore a broader range of narratives and themes, thus allowing students to develop critical thinking skills, enhance their comprehension abilities, and engage in more meaningful discussions. These books have served as a springboard for lessons on empathy, cultural awareness, and the power of storytelling. We've tackled complex characters and plots, which has encouraged students to think more deeply about the texts and how they relate to their own lives.

In our classroom, reading is an adventure. It's not just about silently flipping through pages; it involves group discussions, dramatic readings, and creative projects that allow students to express their understanding and interpretations of the texts. This interactive approach has made reading more accessible and enjoyable for all students, regardless of their initial interest in books or their reading level. We've created a community of readers who support and inspire each other, which has been incredibly rewarding to witness.

Among my students, there are a few who have shown a remarkable shift in their attitude towards reading. One student, in particular, who struggled with reading comprehension at the beginning of the year, has found a new confidence through these books. The variety of genres and topics has allowed him to discover his interests and engage with reading in a way he hadn't before. Watching him light up as he talks about his favorite characters and plots with his peers is a testament to the power of providing students with diverse and compelling reading materials. This project has not only enriched my students' academic skills but has also opened up a world of imagination and curiosity that they will carry with them long after they leave my classroom.”

  • It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

    Funded Oct 6, 2023

I am extremely grateful for the donations we received for our Christmas project! With the funds, I was able to buy boogie boards (off-brand), snacks/drinks, and Christmas gift bags. Additionally, I will personally fund a few fidget toys/coloring books and tissue paper for the students. The students will absolutely love the goodie bags! By using the Christmas decorations I already had, I have successfully created a classroom environment where the students will be able to enjoy a wonderful Christmas experience. I am planning to organize a small Christmas party where students can complete the lesson plans outlined in the grant and decorate sugar cookies. I am confident that the students will thoroughly enjoy the items purchased with this grant. Once again, thank you all for your generous donations! You have no idea how much of an impact it will have on these students!”

  • Resource Room- Calculators And Headphones

    Funded Sep 18, 2023

I want to extend my sincerest appreciation for your donation to my project, "Resource Room- Calculators And Headphones." Your generosity is helping students in grades 3-4 prepare for real-life application, standardized testing, and everyday practice of necessary math skills.

Today's society and educational institutions require students to be proficient in math and technology. By providing each student with a classroom calculator, you have made that task much more achievable. The calculators are currently being used by math classrooms in grades 3-4 resource classrooms. Special needs students are particularly intrigued by the new devices and eager to learn to use them. They feel a sense of pride and accomplishment on a daily basis. They are very excited to have a calculator they can call their "own" without having to share.

Thank you again for your kindness and generosity. I am overwhelmed by the interest and investment you have made in our students. We are proud to partner with you in building future leaders in the classroom.”

This is my first year of teaching in an 8th-grade special education room. My goal is to provide my students with the necessary tools for their school year. My school is an inner-city, low-income school, so providing these supplies would benefit my students greatly! Each student will be supplied with all the necessary tools for learning; so they will not be required to supply anything. By getting assistance with supplying materials, my students will have the best opportunity for being able to have their needs met. Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and not whether they have to purchase their materials.
