What an amazing way to start the new school year with these new engaging tools. My students love learning and games that involve math skills are a wonderful way to support the curriculum. I am so grateful to you for making this possible and thank you for being part of our classroom community.”

  • "Geek Squad" Fun in Math & Science

    Funded Dec 5, 2017

Thanks to your donation we were able to purchase the document camera and tools needed to use this digital device in our classroom. The document camera provided me, the teacher, and my students the opportunity to share their work from a book or paper by projecting it onto our classroom interactive board. This allows students the opportunity to learn from each other's mistakes and teach each other a "different" way to solve a math problem. The growth mindset we have adopted in my class is "mistakes are only proof that you are learning". In addition, this device also helps keep students engaged in the lesson. If I have a wonderful resource only on paper, now I can just place it under the document camera and call up to 6 students to write on the interactive projector screen at any one time, making it ideal for increasing engagement. When students are working together in front of the class, they are likely to take participation more seriously, the result is that they stay engaged longer.

I am a firm believer in students learning from each other and this device makes it possible. This document camera has been a valuable tool for increasing engagement in my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Concepcion

As a National Magnet School of Merit, the objectives at our school include educating the total child through rigorous academics, interdisciplinary research, authentic assessment of international themes, world language immersion, and appreciation of cultural diversity while developing habits of life-long learning. My classroom population consists of children that come from ethnically diverse, as well as a low socioeconomic households. Since our school is departmentalized, my 4th grade Math and Science teaching position is comprised of two classes full of dynamic, gifted students that yearn to learn. I am consistently thinking of ways to teach OUT-OF-THE-BOX to my two groups (AM and PM) of eager learners.
