My students are a group of bright 11-15 year olds. Almost 80% of my students read on grade level in their native language. They do, however, struggle with writing and love to read and write in topics that relate to their lives. Our middle school is located in a suburb of Seattle. Most students have parents who work but hope for their children to attend high school and take challenging AP or IB coursework. My goal for these sixth-eighth graders is to prepare them for high school by giving them high-quality books that reflect their diverse cultures.
