Kitchen Protection
Funded Nov 30, 2021First, we truly want to tell you how much we appreciate you giving to such an important cause. The students were excited to see that new items had arrived and that meant they could have new resources in the kitchen. We have since completed so many labs in our kitchen and the aprons and kitchen towels, while a small item, provide them with not only the proper protection for their work in the kitchen but also the understanding that it is necessary to wear the proper PPE when in a commercial environment. We have completed cleaning and sanitizing labs, knife skills labs, and our first cooking assessment. They were all so happy to get to finally cook in the kitchen classroom and I know they are making memories that cannot be replaced. We are extremely grateful for the gift of love and will use these for years to come.”

Funded Dec 2, 2020This camera is one tool that the students use almost every single day! They are broadening their minds through journalism and art and photojournalism. We never expected them to be able to come up with so many uses for the camera but they surpass our expectations every time! Currently, the camera travels to athletic events, throughout the classrooms to document new and exciting lessons, and to school ground events that highlight the Positive Behavior Integration System now implemented. The new skills of editing and aesthetics are also so important for the students to possess. We are so thankful for your generosity!”

Funded Dec 1, 2020Thank you so much! These books were paramount in opening up our student's worldview to see new and wonderful points of view and perspectives. Many of the books were written on or about types of human behavior that they aren't commonly exposed to. We even had a few teachers check the books out to read about new topics that they weren't familiar with. Books will always be a valuable tool in the educational workspace but works of fiction are a piece of art that should always be shared with students, both young and old. We are so grateful for your gifts of love!”

Funded Dec 1, 2020You would be so proud of the way that the music program is growing, just from your small contribution. We are grateful to have donors that care about the arts and the way that they impact the cognitive learning of our students. While they may be "underprivileged" they are not incapable of surpassing our expectations. Our band program is growing every day and thanks to the two new instruments, students have had the opportunity to try something new, that they may have never been able to try. We want to see them succeed but more importantly, we want to see them love what they do.”

Funded Nov 9, 2020After a very challenging year, we are so thankful for donors like you. This specific project was tremendous in giving my students new life skills. I was overwhelmed with the generosity of you all and cannot thank you enough for what love you have given them. While it may be an odd request to have a pressure washer, it is funny to see what small tools can change their perspectives on success in life. Our Leadership class was able to learn to use the pressure washer to take charge of the Exterior Beautification Project for the school and help maintain the grounds. I am proud of the work they accomplished and the new skills they learned, thanks to all of you!”

Funded Jan 22, 2020In all transparency, I wanted to help describe to you how the students reacted when the donation first arrived. I was with my second period Family and Consumer Science class that I can honestly say has made the best of everything this year with what we have. They saw the boxes and the whole group of 12 students in that class came to open them. When I began describing what was inside the boxes and how we had been funded, they didn't understand. "How long can we keep them for?" "You bought all these Mrs. West?" "How much do we have to pay to have them?"
It was incomprehensible that you had bestowed this kindness. I want you to feel that joy. They were overwhelmed. One student began hurridly listing off all of the foods they could now cook in the classroom. As they finally landed on their favorite food, they came to me, holding boxes of brand new sauce pots, begging to make deep-fried Oreos and cupcakes. I absolutely agreed as I knew how important it was to celebrate this gift with something they loved. I have students in my classes that have cooked with their families all of their lives, and I have students who have only stepped foot in the kitchen to warm a Hot Pocket. I believe it is never about the teaching in education but is 100% about the learning. Even myself. I have learned more from my students than I ever have in studying for my Masters and even now my Ph.D. Human beings are an astounding thing, and if we just take a small amount of time to give them our love and effort, we can connect in a way that never fades. That's what you have done with your donations. I can never give you enough thanks. Just lay down at night and say to yourself out loud, "I made all the difference in the life of a child".”
