I like to think of my classroom as a fortress of freedom with a steady foundation of discipline, respect, and mandatory creativity. I have high expectations for my students, not only to thrive as musicians, but as well-rounded scholars. Although my school is majority Hispanic and African-American, the scholars are still taught about various cultures in order to gain consciousness of the surrounding world. Through music they gain an appreciation for their heritage and their education. With bright and inviting colors, print-rich walls, a variety of instruments, and no desks, I aim to capture the students minds and attention to second the door opens. We are blessed to have 6 Orff xylophones and metallophones, handbells, and stepbells. Because of our large class sizes of 26 or less, students learn that sharing isn't so bad after all! I, also, have a small library of books about music that the students simply adore!
