Recess Reading
Funded Sep 26, 2024On behalf of the Buckman Elementary Library, I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your generous contribution towards the establishment of our Little Free Library.
Your support has made a significant impact on our school community. The Little Free Library will not only enhance our students' access to a variety of books but will also foster a love of reading and a sense of community. It is a wonderful resource that encourages curiosity and imagination among our young learners.
Thanks to your kindness, we are able to create an inviting space where students can explore new stories, share their favorite reads, and cultivate a lifelong passion for literacy in a time of their choosing. We look forward to watching our students thrive as they engage with the diverse selection of books available to them to keep and share.
Thank you once again for your generosity and commitment to supporting our students. We appreciate your partnership in making Buckman Elementary a better place for learning.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Rudnick
Focused Listening
Funded Jan 18, 2020Thank you for supporting my fundraiser! Having a class set of headphones has been a two year process and we finally made it! This ensures that every student has access to independent focused listening. When we are doing projects, puzzles, coding and films it keeps the library from the buzz and noise distractions of students individual work. Some students are finishing projects while others get a free choice time and with enough headphones we can have our minds focused on the task at hand. Thank you so much once again!”

Carpet Learning Space Upgrade
Funded Dec 3, 2019Thank you so much for this amazing new story time/lesson carpet! The students walk into the library and notice how much more space they have in their individual spot. I have overheard so many students say "Whoa! This carpet is huge! I have so much room! I'm not so squishy next to you now! It's so bright and clean! I think I should take my shoes off..." (haha!)
Giving students new spots on the carpet has been really fun! Each square is a color and each row is a different color. For classroom management and dismissal staggering, this carpet has made it so easy! I have been able to dismiss students by their row color or their seat color and it's fun to see them wait for the next color I say.
It really is so amazing how one thin (but large!) piece of furniture can change the tone and organization of a classroom space and for that I am eternally thankful!
P.S. I was able to gift my smaller carpet to a 2nd grade classroom in need of a new carpet space so really, your donation helped TWO classrooms!”

Funded Nov 28, 2018We are so excited to announce that the whiteboard has been installed and the projection station was used for the first time today! Creating a new technology friendly learning environment helps students seamlessly transition between lessons in the library.
The students are stunned at how we can teach and walk around checking on their progress without being hooked to the projector by a cable. It makes an instant projection to help problem solve or reteach a technology piece of instruction.
Many students have warmed to the new technology, especially the older students. They want to use the new projector in conjunction with the green screen room and for special performance enhancements.
Additionally, the whiteboard has been a huge positive change in the library. Having this available has drastically reduced the amount of large sheet paper we use for various lessons. Having it be magnetic also helps in attaching sheets for demonstration and keeping all 6 grade levels organized for lessons.
This has been a major change to our learning space and for that we are EXTREMELY grateful!”

iPads on the Bookcases!
Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you for supporting the Buckman Library. The refurbished iPads are being used for looking up books in our library. Before this project was put into place, we had two laptops doing this job. With a class of almost 30 students the lines were so long some students didn't get to find the books they were looking for.
The mounting brackets make it so easy to put the iPads on the bookcases, lock them in and keep them at eye level for the students. The first day in use, the students were so excited to research different books to use the new technology.
Having access to looking up books is one step in a larger research lesson. Fostering independence in elementary school libraries lends to more in depth lessons and research in future grades and schools.
We are so very thankful that our small but strong library is being brought into the 21st century vision for libraries around the country. Thank you for your support!”

Funded Mar 29, 2017Our humblest of "thank yous" for these headphones in our library. We are using these to focus on tasks and apps we are using in the library to prevent distractions around us. With Buckman students in the library only 40 minutes a week, focus is key to accomplishing the curriculum and learning outcomes.
These new earphones are such a hit! The students are so excited to begin using them that they are offering to make sure they are put away correctly so that everyone in the school can enjoy them. I am making sure to introduce this new TOOL in our library to each and every class while recognizing the generous donation from people within AND outside of our community.
Thank you for the opportunity to bring our library into the 21st century and your continued support for our current and future seekers and learners!”

Funded Nov 29, 2016Thank you so much for the 10 clear backpacks. I have been filling them with books for book buddies. The backpacks make it so easy for students of any age (kindergarten-5th grade) to carry multiple books by themselves. Not only are they great inside, they have proved great outside! Some teachers use them to take on field trips and here in Oregon, the books stay nice, dirt-free and dry. The kindergarteners especially love them because it makes them feel more independent and remind their peers that the safest place for a library book is in a BACKPACK!”

With New Chairs We Can Read, Wriggle, And Focus Together!
Funded Sep 8, 2016The new chairs have been a hit in our library. From students to staff to parents, they are all excited to wiggle and focus. Introducing the chairs to students has been the best part. Their eyes light up and when they sit in the stools, it's like it was meant to be from the beginning!
One 7 year old student said that one of his saddest memories was hurting his leg when falling over on one of our old, heavy, metal chairs. He zoomed right to the new "mushroom chair" and had the biggest grin. He looked over at me and said "Ms. Rudnick! I can rock and not fall! Look! I can even pick the chair up!"
Bringing the arts into the library has been a fun endeavor. I can't wait to see how they can rock and wiggle in these chairs with musical poetry, library songs and dramatic acting in literature.
Thank you for helping us brighten up the smiles, happy bodies and space at the Buckman Library!”
