Operation: Take What You Need!
Funded Sep 1, 2023I am pleased to inform you of the initiative that embodies the true spirit of our community's care and support.
Within my room, we created a "Take What You Need" cart, generously funded by our donors through Donorschoose. This cart is a symbol of our commitment to ensuring that every student has access to essential resources during their academic journey.
We encouraged all teachers to let any students who are in need of items to make use of this valuable resource. It's not just a cart; it's a symbol of our unity and willingness to support one another.
In the true spirit of our school's motto, "Together We Rise," we made a difference in the lives of our fellow Tornadoes with your donations.
Thank you for being a part of our caring community. Your support and unity are what make us truly exceptional.”

Mrs. A.
Is It Lunchtime Yet ?
Funded Nov 29, 2022Thank you so much for your contributions. The students were so excited to open the boxes of snacks. With the snack donation, students are less hungry throughout the day and can focus more on the lessons. Having snacks that are accessible has improved class attendance and engagement. Students come to school on time knowing that if they miss breakfast, I have them covered. This donation ignited a fire among a few parents who were now willing to donate to Donors Choose because of this project. I am forever grateful for being able to serve students in the urban and inner-city area of Overtown once again. From the bottom of our hearts, we say thank you!”

Funded Jan 26, 2022Thank you so much for your contribution to our classroom library. With our library, students were able to engage in tutoring sessions, literacy circles, and compete with other schools in our district. The students brag about how the books are easy to read and relatable to things they are experiencing now. Allowing students to have a choice and voice in selection of their books of interest is essential in boosting their love of reading. We engaged in one activity that compared paperback books to e-books. Believe it or not, students believed that paperback books were more effective in increasing their reading ability! They contend that although they may have started out as low readers, they are motivated to become better with each chapter book they complete. Again, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts !”

Funded Dec 10, 2021Words can not express our gratitude for your wonderful contribution. Your contribution allowed students that were unmotivated and uninterested due to hunger to regain their purpose in learning and coming to school. Many of the students made an initiative to attend after school tutoring because they knew they would get remediation and not worry about if they'll have a snack or not for an additional hour of learning. Many of the snacks were used as rewards, but most were used to feed students who didn't have access to breakfast or lunch and needed a midday snack.
Prior to receiving the funding, I was purchasing snacks with my own money. Doing this became difficult as I have children and financial responsibilities of my own. I shared this with my high schoolers and they were so understanding, so when they saw the boxes, their faces lit up with excitement. I'm so glad to be connected with such an amazing organization. I pray that your blessing is returned a hundredfold and that your businesses and/or organizations thrive. From our hearts to yours, we say thank you !”

Funded Oct 21, 2021Clean air and pure hearts ! Since being funded and provided with an air purifier we feel a little more confident in being together under one roof. While it is evident that the pandemic has negatively affected many families, students in our class were awaiting an opportunity to learn with out distractions.
Distractions being having to navigate from physical learning environments to remote learning. Days of being relocated due to extensive cleaning. Various students and families were hospitalized and asked to quarantine which affected student academic progress and most importantly their mental health.
The purifier gave so many families the comfort in knowing that their children were safe in my care. With recommendations from the CDC and improved safety precautions we are off to a strong ending of the year. We say thank you for simply thinking of us in our time of dire need. As a nation, we need one another and you have proved that you are willing to aide and show love with your contribution.”

Funded Nov 23, 2020Social Emotional Learning is critical in this era of Co-Vid. Students and teachers are impacted the most as we engage in teaching and learning on a daily basis despite the need to be apart due to health regulations. With that, promoting an environment that supports social emotional learning is a priority. We are currently using the resources from this project to engage in morning meeting activities that would allow students to share and discuss their feelings. Prior to these resources students displayed a somber countenance. Some even refused to speak in classroom discussions. Students now are displaying a sense of self and a power to be able to articulate what they feel. The student's favorite resource is the morning meeting book and the "Let's Talk" cubes. During transitions throughout the day, students often ask me to use the cubes to ignite discussion. As a 6 year teacher in the inner city community, I truly thank you for your contribution.”

Funded Dec 3, 2019Your donation has worked wonders in my classroom! I am already beginning to see progress with my ELL students. I currently pair a reader with a non-readers. They are so amazed and eagered to learn how to read themselves. The students volunteer to read to each other on a daily basis. I truly believe with your help, we have raised the bar and increased their love for reading and learning. I truly appreciate your contribution and pray that as you have blessed our future generation, that you are blessed in return !”

Funded May 3, 2019Providing books for these students, who are struggling readers makes me feel like my job is worth it and that I matter in the lives of these students. You should feel the same way also. Because of where we are located, we receive a lot of new students some of which are from homeless shelters. The lack of resources affects us greatly in this community.
Words cannot describe how I feel as a teacher.
We as educators constantly sustain and embrace many challenges that come with this profession. I can truly say we are closing the gap of the things we lack when it comes to providing a fair and profitable education to our students. With your generous contributions, we are striving towards excellence!
I realized that literacy is pertinent in our classroom and my goal to ensure that every student has the opportunity to increase their reading ability no matter where they are. The love of reading can change the mindset of a low reader and can cause them to work harder in their efforts. I truly would like to say thanks for giving us the push to make sure this happens. My students are elated and overwhelmed with gratification (as you can tell in the pictures).”

I can truly say we are closing the gap of the things we lack when it comes to providing a fair and profitable education to our students.
We are striving towards excellence! We service many students in our area, but a lot of which comes from the surrounding shelters. With your generous donation we were able to develop care packages filled with snacks and items they need on a daily basis. Our hearts were warmed and filled with gratitude as we put smiles on their faces. We realize that educating students goes far beyond the four walls of a classroom. Thanks for caring!”

Reducing the ratio of technology in our classroom has made learning fun and easier for me. We are able to do research, engage in academic games and produce/record fun videos to teach lessons.
Because of where we are located, we receive a lot of new students some of which are from homeless shelters. The lack of resources affect us greatly in this community. I realized that technology is pertinent in our classroom and my goal to ensure that every student has their own technology to promote student engagement and academic success in this technology driven world. I truly would like to say thanks for giving us the push to make sure these students who were relocated feel welcomed and receive the same academic opportunities. My students are elated and overwhelmed with gratification (as you can tell in the pictures) to have the very things they are unable to receive in their homes.”
