Stretching for Victory
Funded Dec 3, 2024Thank you again for your support in purchasing the stretching bands for our track team. We've been using them throughout our indoor training this winter as we prepare for a successful spring season. Our runners were super excited when we opened the boxes at practice and they ask to use the bands every time we workout.
The bands have helped our runners commit to a program of continuous improvement over the winter months. It's been very gratifying for Coach Albaeck and myself to see the progress from the first day in the gym flailing around with the bands to the seriousness with which each runner now works through the stretching routine. We can see their confidence growing as they get stronger and more flexible and there is no doubt that the work we are putting in now will pay dividends on the track in the spring.
It's been great to see our runners push themselves to get the most out of every practice. We look forward to a great outdoor track season thanks to your support!”

Funded Jul 26, 2024Thank you again for your support in purchasing the sports watches for our track team. We've been using them throughout our training this cross country season. Our runners were super excited when we opened the boxes at practice and they ask to wear the watches every time we run.
The watches have helped our runners set goals for themselves as they practice and we're already started tracking the improvement week to week. Having a watch for every runner also lets Coach Albaeck and I assign more creative and individual workouts. We used to rely on two coaches with stopwatches to time all the workouts - now our runners can time themselves and work on improving at their own pace.
It's been great to see our runners push themselves and get more confident with every practice. We look forward to another great year thanks to your support!”

Funded Sep 26, 2022I am delighted to report that the Watershed Tour kit that you helped fund for our science classroom has been a tremendous success. Our students loved the opportunity to act as "real" scientists, using test tubes, wearing goggles, and mixing chemicals to test different water sources in our community.
We spent the fall semester learning about our upstate watershed and even visiting it in person. With the resources in the Watershed Tour kit, we kicked off our winter chemistry unit by asking some important questions: "What happens to our water along the way and once it reaches New York City and how does this affect the water quality?"
Along with the water testing materials, the Watershed Tour kit also supports our students in taking the next step to consider their role in the stewardship of our local ecosystem. As we move into the spring and explore the protection and conservation of our water resources, the experiences with the Watershed Tour kit will serve as valuable anchors and reference points for rich classroom discussions. Thank you again for your generosity.”

Give Our Runners the Shirts on Their Backs
Funded Jun 1, 2020Thank you so much for your generosity in funding this project. In this unusual school year we have needed to be flexible and flexibility was also key for the success of this project. The original project item was for exercise shirts for our running club. Those items became unavailable by the time they were to be shipped in the fall. As it turns out, our track teams have not been able to practice and compete due to the COVID-19 restrictions. But students have still been able to meet together in a socially distanced way and this is where the new items have really had an impact.
We chose a set of camp stools that we can use to meet outdoors with our students. Our students who are attending school are restricted from moving classrooms, so they end up staying in the same room all day and only seeing a limited number of classmates. However, with our outdoor stools, students in the running club are able to go outside for team meetings and connect with their teammates in a safe way.
Whenever it is time to go outside, students are quick to choose a stool and line up. Once outside they spread out on the front lawn of our school, chatting and laughing like typical middle schoolers in a typical year. These outdoor meetings are keeping the inclusive spirit of our running club community alive while we wait for the chance to compete together once again. They would not be possible without your donation.”

Mr. Andersen
