  • Collaborative Classroom Cafe

    Funded Nov 10, 2021

    Thank you for funding our flexible classroom seating project! The kids had a blast assembling the furniture and finding the best ways to set it all up. Our next steps will be to remove extra tables and replace them with the outdoor furniture, roll out the rugs and install backpack hooks on the wall. The floor cushions, wobble boards and swivel chairs will be integrated amongst the flexible and traditional seating options, so there are choices that suit the needs and learning styles of all. I am really looking forward to seeing how the projects that we have funded over the last few years all come together!”

  • The Future is Flexible!

Everyone has taken advantage of the great weather and being able to take their learning outside, both individually and while working in groups.

Students are encouraged to be active participants in their learning, yet are hindered by the expectation that they sit still and complete their work in a traditional setting (one-size, fits-all chairs and desks). My innovative, modern classroom will reflect individual students' needs and encourage collaboration, scholarly discussion and positive peer relationships through unique, flexible workspaces. I picture students circled up in our classroom cafe discussing their task, carrying the portable lap desks outside to work under the trees, or balancing on a wobble board while editing an essay. By encouraging opportunities to work collaboratively with their peers, (a necessary 21st century skill!), I hope my students will gain independence and confidence as they navigate their way through life.
