  • Eye Can See Clearly!

    Funded Jul 8, 2019

My students have cherished your donation! They are owning our classroom and loving the environment that your donation helped to flourish. Students are working in a space that allows for less eye-strain and more creative abilities.

When my students first saw the light covers and string of lights, their eyes lit up. They thoroughly enjoy coming into our room because of the warmth and homey feeling we've created with your supplies. It ought to be a warm place away from home since this is where most of the year is spent.

This year, we are actively trying to grow independent thinkers and creative minds. You see a lot of mobile areas where the kids can get up and collaborate with others. This space in class allows for the kids to spread out and be comfortable while learning and engaging with others.

We are so thankful for your donations. Thank you for your impact on our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cates

  • Declutter the Classroom!

    Funded May 9, 2019

My students love having places for their things. I am so thankful for the chair pockets because it allows the students to organize their desks and spread their things out so they are not all squished in their desks. When the kids first saw them, they were not convinced that they would need them. They now see the value of having an easy place to go to find their books and folders. It's an easy access place for them to quickly put things away to move on to the next great activity! Currently, my students are working on flexible mindsets. I try and create a positive, safe and calm atmosphere for the kids to work and feel like they can do it all. I really love turning the lights off and allowing them to feel the calm instead of me asking for it all of the time. They enjoy pushing themselves towards goals and thinking creatively.

Thank you so much for the gift of organization. It has and will continue to have a wonderful impact on my kids.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cates

  • Let Me Show You!

    Funded Aug 6, 2018

The project that you helped fund is already a great success! Students are thriving while doing audio and visual tasks in the classroom. I see the bright lights in their eyes when they are allowed to use the new materials provided. Now that we have the materials, students are excited about sharing their work. With this new equipment added, the students are beginning to see value in describing their work with details for their peers. We have already done some artwork and used the sound cubes to help students block out noise while detailing the reasons and importance of the images they chose for their pieces. They are getting a chance to really listen to themselves (an excellent reading skill) playback what they've recorded and add details to any dull sentences. It's making them more aware of the way they present, write, and speak.

Using the cubes is done when students are finished with their work. Once they are completed, we have a small meeting to make sure its ready for "publishing" to the Seesaw app. The students go grab a cube, a plug-in phone and find a small area in the classroom that is away from loud noises and lots of other students. They get onto the app Seesaw, plug in the external phone to the headphone jack and record from there. When they are finished, they return the equipment to the hanging organizer and clean it for the next user.

All of my students really enjoy the new equipment. They are all learning how to care for it and use it to it's maximum potential. We are so grateful and look forward to finding new ways to use the cubes and phones each day!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cates

Technology is great when it works properly right? The program I use in my classroom is a digital portfolio where students take ownership and share the work that they are most proud of. If the materials are purchased for my classroom, it will enhance the use of Seesaw. Using our school technology, students are able to capture photos, videos and complete activities showing their growth and learning. Student's parents and families can see and comment on their work, creating a close community and involvement with school and home. In the past, my class has used Seesaw before, but it has been difficult to hear the students through the devices' built-in microphone. Unfortunately, the device picks up lots of background noise and it is difficult to hear the joy and ownership of the student shine through. With the materials listed, students will help create a sound box for the device where they can be confident and have a quiet space to drown out the noise of the busy classroom. Also, the microphones will be sure to capture the voices of the students and make them the center of attention. The hanging organizer will hold the phones while not in use and will also provide wipes to disinfect the adapter after each use.
