Help My AP Students Prep for College Success!
Funded Dec 10, 2021Thank you so much for your gift of AP US History review books. My AP students have been diligently highlighting, taking notes, making outlines, and practicing exam questions. We have been able to do timed mock exams simulating test conditions in order to best prepare them for what they will be facing in two short weeks, and I have seen more confidence and skill in this year's group than in many of my past students. The fact that we were able to get premium copies of the review book that included more content and test materials allowed me to expand my review sessions and give my students even more practice. I'm confident my students will give their 110% to this exam, and their success will be connected to your generosity in providing this great resource!”

Steps to College Success!
Funded Jan 14, 2020I cannot thank you enough for your donation of AP US History Exam Review books for my students. During normal times, we would be (and indeed already were) using the books to review test-taking strategies, practice writing essays, and tackle problems as a group. In these times, when I cannot see my students face-to-face or explain things to them, it is such a relief to know that they have the materials they need to prepare for the AP exam, which is still happening.
We had no way of preparing for an event like this, and if we had not already had these books, my students would have no physical paper copies of materials they could use to prepare for this test. Sure, they could have bought these books online, but given the financial and emotional stress many of their families were facing, I couldn't expect or mandate that from everyone.
This virus has laid bare the inequities in our society that we already knew existed, beyond access to medical care. Remote learning has proven more challenging for students from low-income households, for a variety of reasons ranging from access to technology to parents employed in essential work fields. Your donation has helped level the playing field in a seemingly small but very significant way. When my AP students start their senior year, they will have done so already having completed a college level class, studied for a college level exam, and hopefully, having gained some college credit! Thank you!”

A New Whiteboard for a New Year!
Funded Oct 9, 2019The day after my new whiteboard was put up in my classroom, students immediately noticed. Some didn't even notice the board, they just commented that the room felt "fresh" and "new". Some said, "miss, where did that whiteboard come from? It looks so nice!" Despite its utility and functionality, having something new and high quality made the room feel like a whole new place, and made the students feel special for learning in it.
Since that day, the whiteboard has become central to communicating messages about how my class works. I've used the magnetic feature to tack up flyers about weekend exam prep, community events, and student groups. Students walk in every day and look at the board for updates on school events. I write down announcements about signing up for SAT prep courses, schedule changes, and other important announcements. I also use the whiteboard to log a running list of the unit's assignments, so students know what they are missing. At the end of the day, once students collect their phones, they often come into my room to snap pictures of the list and use it to catch up on missing work.
Most importantly, the whiteboard contains important info about our unit, our lesson, and our daily activities. For my students on the autism spectrum, being able to come in every day and know exactly what we're doing provides a sense of comfort and security in the classroom space. If a student asks, "What are we learning today?" I gesture to the white board - it's all there! This white board is a focal point of the classroom, and it's gorgeous. It makes this learning space feel organized, neat, and valued. Thank you so much to everyone who donated to make this happen!!”

Steps to College Success!
Funded Mar 10, 2019Thank you so much for your donations of APUSH review books. I used them frequently in my lessons to prepare students for their AP Exam, and was able to assign test prep hw that helped them practice material that looked just like it would on the actual test.
My students told me that they felt really well-prepared for the exam, and I saw many of them embarking on independent study - using post-its and highlighters, making flash cards, and using the review book based on their own needs and schedule. This would not have happened if we weren't able to get them such quality review materials.
Some students even enjoyed the book purely for the historical information it imparted. One student emailed me to say that he enjoyed reading the book so much that he carried it around with him every day, and he would save it well past high school so that he could review topics that sparked his interest! We could not have done this without you.”

AP Exam Prep: Making College More Affordable
Funded Dec 6, 2017Thank you so much for your incredible support in donating AP US History Exam Review books. Students have been incredibly excited to receive them and get more opportunities to prepare for the exam. Using these books, I've been able to compile test-review sessions that align specifically with our units so students can put their knowledge to the test just days after they learn new material. In addition, this week, all AP students will be engaging in a Mock AP Exam using the review books in order to simulate real-life test conditions and assess their strengths.
I've never seen an AP group this dedicated to success and this committed to working hard for it. I'm excited to see them ace this exam and gain college credit, which will help them along their future paths. Your generous donation made this possible, and Bronxdale's APUSH students thank you for it!!”
