  • Apple iPads Will Keep Students Engaged!

    Funded Nov 18, 2021

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Your most generous donation is very much appreciated! The donation of an Apple iPad to my classroom had an immediate impact in our kindergarten classroom. With your generous donation of an Apple iPad, our students do not have to wait as long to get on a device. In our kindergarten classroom, students are expected to spend a minimum of 20 minutes during our literacy block on a device working on our reading intervention - Lexia. In addition, in the afternoon, these same students are expected to spend another 20 minutes minimum on the math intervention - iReady. Both Lexia and iReady provide additional support to many of our struggling learners. Your donation of an Apple iPad to our busy kindergarten classroom tremendously cuts down on our students' wait time. And, as you can almost imagine, our students enjoy using technology, which many do not have at home.

Again, many thanks for your generous donation!”

    With gratitude,

    Dr. Brodus-Yougha

  • Mobility & Flexibility Needed in Kindergarten

    Funded Dec 3, 2021

Thank you! Thank you! Your most generous donation is very much appreciated! My students enjoy our technology station very much; and with today's donation the wait time for the technology center has decreased! My students use our district's mandated computer-based interventions of Lexia and iReady Reading and Math on a daily basis. These interventions, coupled with instruction, improves student achievement!

Again, many thanks for today's donation that will continue to impact student achievement in kindergarten for many years to come!”

  • Interactive Mobile Whiteboard Needed for Kindergarten Classroom

    Funded Oct 14, 2019

Thank you for your most generous donation in the form of a mobile interactive whiteboard! Your generosity is most appreciated! My students were so excited — the expressions on their faces mirrored mine — excitement! We were all thrilled!

The positive impact of this technology has been immediate! Students can now either sit, dance, touch the screen, or otherwise interact with the view board! The students enjoy the large screen and the clarity of the sound system; and are therefore more engaged!

The majority of my students are either visual or kinesthetic learners. Specifically, students enjoy going up to the whiteboard and writing specific letters, high frequency words, or numbers, which have been dictated or modeled for them. In addition, my students enjoy watching old episodes of Sesame Street or Magic School Bus on the giant screen while eating their lunch!

Finally, both my administrators and instructional coaches are expecting high assessment scores with the addition of this new technology, which will hopefully, increase our student engagement. Therefore, this increased student engagement will transcend into high academic achievement!

Again, many thanks for your most generous donation!”

    With gratitude,

  • Leveled Books Needed for Kindergarten Classroom

    Funded Sep 22, 2019

Thank you for your most generous donation in the form of leveled books to my kindergarten classroom. The impact has been both positive and immediate!

Since the beginning of the school year, I have drilled my students on their sight word vocabulary (i.e., a, at, and, are, be, can, do, for, from, get, go, here, has, etc.). We have now been in school for approximately 12 weeks; and most of my students know these words by sight! And, now, because of your generous donation, they recognize these same words in their leveled books. The students are continuously saying to both me and their friends, "these are our words!" Needless to say, they have begun the reading process! The students read these books during small group instruction; and then the books are placed on the bookshelf. Frequently, my students read these same books again and again on the rug before our morning meeting begins. And, I'm happy to say that they continue to be excited about these leveled books.

Finally, as previously shared, these books support our classroom instruction in reading comprehension, vocabulary, and even assist with early print concepts. These print concepts include one-to-one correspondence, reading left to right, and return sweep; as well as reading from top to bottom.

Again, thanks for your most generous donation!”

    With gratitude,

  • Non-Fiction Leveled Books, Literacy Manipulatives, & Games Needed

    Funded Oct 14, 2019

Thank you for your generous donation in the form of Leveled Reading Books for our kindergarten classroom. Your generosity is very much appreciated! My students were so excited about new books - needless to say, the expression on their faces was priceless! They are really enjoying these books because they can actually read some of them without any assistance from me (the teacher)!

Your generous donation also included the purchase literacy manipulatives (sight word magnets, sight word rings, snap and build sight words, and write and wipe sight words). The magnets have been placed on an easel in our classroom; and the students review these words on a daily basis. In addition, the sight word rings have been placed on student tables so that students can use these same words in their daily writing. We have not used the snap and build sight words or the write and wipe sight word games. However, they will be used as a literacy station activity during the months of November and December.

Again, thank you for your most generous donation, which will not only have a positive impact on this years' students, but will ultimately have an impact on my future classes as well; and beyond!”

  • Integration of Technology in Math During Small Group Instruction

    Funded Jul 31, 2019

Thank you for your generous donation in the form of two tablets. It is very much appreciated, and it has had an immediate impact in my kindergarten classroom. Having additional technology and/or tablets in the classroom cuts down on student wait time for access to technology (ie., iPads, tablets, or desktop computers); and more students, at the same time, can access technology at any given time! Therefore, in my kindergarten classroom, students are able to access the school district's computer-based interventions of ST Math and Lexia Core Reading — not just the recommended amount of time, but additional time needed in order to thrive in both math and reading!

In addition, my classroom has been lacking in up-to-date technology. Currently, my school district has provided me with five Dell desktop computers. However, in this day and age, my students prefer using interactive and/or touchscreen devices. Sometimes, I catch my students touching the screen of the Dell desktop hoping that overnight our desktops have developed the touch screen capacity! My special needs students enjoy using the tablets because of the touch screen; and speed of the device!

Finally, all of my students love the mobility of our tablets! In the busy kindergarten classroom, the students can sit on the rug in either housekeeping or blocks or on the alphabet rug with their over the ear headphones. Looking at these students with their mobile devices, it often appears that they are in a world all of their own! And, they are engaged and learning! Again, thank you for your most generous donation!”

  • Flashcards and Games Reinforce Learning in Kindergarten

    Funded Sep 7, 2019

THANK YOU for your most generous donation in the form of the following resources: laminating paper, card stock in various colors, and book rings. These resources are being used to make flash cards, games, and books to be used in both the kindergarten classroom and homes of students. And, the impact of these resources has been positive.

Recently, the kindergarten teachers held an Academic Parent Teacher Team Meeting with the parents of our kindergarten teams. The teachers discussed student data; and then shared with parents how to reinforce skills taught in the classroom at home. Parents were provided three different educational games as follows: (1) Push the Sounds; (2) I Have, Who Has (which reinforces alphabet letter identification/sounds); and (3) Decomposition Towers, which helps students with addition. Our parents were very receptive of the information and games provided to them.

In addition, at a recent weekly kindergarten grade level meeting, teachers shared that we had seen preliminary improvement in letter identification and sounds. And, at this time, we'd like to credit both our parents and students for this improvement by using these academic games in both in the classroom and at home.

Again, THANK YOU for your generous support of our kindergarten program!”

  • Technology Increases Students' Potential for Excellence

    Funded Sep 17, 2019

Thank you for your generous donation in the form of an Apple iPad. Your generosity is very much appreciated. My students were so excited - the expression on their faces was priceless!

The positive impact of this technology was immediate! Students can now choose to sit on either the carpet or in another quiet area of the classroom; and complete a computer-based intervention in either reading (Lexia) or math (ST Math). They enjoy sitting in different areas of the classroom, while completing their daily work.

In addition, at any given time, during morning centers, students can work independently from different areas of the classroom. My students are no longer tied to our old Dell desktop computers. Therefore, your generosity has provided my students with both the flexibility and mobility needed for them to access the general education curriculum.

Again, many thanks for your generous donation!”

  • Write! Write! Write! Good Penmanship Needed in Kindergarten Classroom

    Funded Jun 21, 2019

Thank you for your most generous donation in the form of individual student whiteboards and dry erase markers! It is most appreciated by both myself and my students!

Our classroom uses whiteboards and dry erase markers on a daily basis. My students sit in a semi-circle on the rug. Frequently, we practice writing our alphabet, high frequency words, and short sentences (ie., I can go to the zoo.) using the correct capitalization, punctuation, and our high frequency words.

This time spent on the rug working using our whiteboards and dry erase markers is very valuable! My students enjoy this activity very much. In the beginning, they enjoy the erasing! However, by the end of the school year, they are using good writing skills, which also ultimately helps them become better readers!

Again, your generous donation is very much appreciated. The individual whiteboards will not only impact this years' kindergarten students but will also continue to impact future students as well! Many thanks for your generosity!”

All of my students come to school excited to learn; and filled with much enthusiasm. One of their greatest joys is completing either Lexia Reading Core 5 and ST Math, both computer interventions, that help support their learning in our classroom. I notice that many of my Special Needs' students often prefer working on the rug, in a quiet corner of our classroom, or in the reading center. These students are often the most vulnerable of the vulnerable; and frequently require additional supports in order to be successful in our classroom. The iPads would allow my Special Needs' students the much desired mobility and flexibility to work elsewhere in the classroom with fewer distractions while accessing the general education curriculum. My Special Needs' students have various disabilities, often coming from different backgrounds or households, and frequently have specific individual needs based on both academic and social emotional learning. These students would benefit tremendously from additional hands-on technology in our kindergarten classroom. In closing, Kindergarten is the foundation of K-12 learning; and research has shown that our students profit most from a quality learning environment that involves hands-on technology. In this day and age, our kindergarteners must be both prepared and equipped for first grade and beyond. That being the case, your generous donations are an investment in our kindergarteners' future.
