Food for Thought
Funded Feb 5, 2020Thank you for donating to our class. My tutoring students were delighted to receive their snacks and water to snack on after school. Students eat lunch early in the day and are hungry during tutoring. Students were able to eat before tutoring which helped them focus more during our tutoring session. Myself and my students were very grateful to that you funded our project.
Our classroom project consisted of students setting up a store and used play money to purchase their snacks. Students learned how to be the customer purchasing food and water with their money and also how to be the clerk, who adds up their total to make sure they give the correct change. My students enjoyed this lesson, it gave them an understanding of adding and subtracting.
Our next class project will be on the basic economics teaching them about producers and consumers and good services.”

Funded Feb 11, 2020Students used their new resources in the classroom during our daily living skills lesson. Students were taught the proper way to brush their teeth and the proper way to wash their hands. Students were given their own set of supplies to use for this activity. Each student washed their hands and moisturized them with their lotion before lunch and brushed their teeth after lunch.
Students reaction when they seen the supplies was nothing less than hilarious. Students were amazed to see so many different colors of toothbrushes, they raved about the many tubes of toothpastes, and so many small soaps. My students wanted student wanted to take them home to share with their families. Students were given their own bag with their names on it, to use in class. A few were given some to take home because they did not have any at home.
Our next classroom lesson would be to teach my students about taking care of their bodies. My students are intellectually delayed so lessons have to be taught over and over again before they grasp the concept of it.”

Funded Jan 10, 2020Thank you so much for funding our class project. Students were excited to received their own supplies to use in the classroom without to ask another classmate to borrow pencils, pens, color pencils and highlighters. Students used their highlighters for note taking. Students were given a brief explanation on how to use highlighters. Once students got the hang of it, they highlighted notes, important information in their math books, and places on letters for their parents to sign.
Students reaction when they seen the supplies was priceless. Students were eager to use their supplies right away, but were told to be patient. Students sorted supplies among themselves and labeled their bags. They were happy to have their own school supplies and some stated that they're prepared for learning.
Our next project would be clickers so that students can use them to when were using the Promethean Board for an assignment. They can click from their desk to provide their answers. Also, working on getting electronic devices for our classroom so that my students will have working devices in our classroom.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Perry and Donna Golkin Family Foundation and one other donor.Diversity and Equity
Funded Dec 19, 2019Thanks to your donation to our class, I was able to educate my students on cultural diversity using the dolls from different nationalities. My students now have an understanding of cultural diversity and respect each other so much more. Students were paired and given a doll of choice, they looked on the internet (with my help) to find out what country their doll was from and what that country flag looked like. The students brought in a dish to represent that dolls country. After the project, my students realized that although they look different, they are all special.
When my students saw the dolls, the girls were so excited, but the boys were not so excited. After explaining to them that we were going to do a project to help them understand about how special each one of them are, the boys eventually came around. The girls wanted to do the dolls hair and changed their clothes.
The next step for my students is for them to learn how to say hello, count to 10, and say see you later in the language of the doll they chose. This will allow them to expand their knowledge and also see how most of the languages words sound the same. We will conclude this project with students drawing their doll, the country the doll is from and saying hello in that native language.”

Chromebooks and Reading Go Hand in Hand
Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you for the chromebooks. The students were able to use them to create projects, respond to prompts from the Smartboard, and use them to complete at home research assignments. My students were able to sign out the chromebooks to assist with classroom assignments and homelearning assignments. The parents of the students in my class were happy to know that their child was exposed to different types of technology and were able to check them out to take home.
The students like the fact that could pair up in teams and compete with other students in the class through interactive learning. They now understand that they can create surveys and interactive games so their classmates could answer and compete with them as well.”

Funded Jan 16, 2018Thank you for the donations that were made to my class. My students were able to have fresh clean water daily. The snacks that were provided, were great. My students are usually hungry due to the fact they go to lunch early in the morning and having that afternoon snack with water curbs their hunger. Being that most of my students don't have the means or funds to bring extra food, having snacks in the classroom has been beneficial.
My students were so excited to see an abundance of snacks and water. We are so grateful that our project was funded.
Our next project is a listening station for our classroom to enhance our phonics skills and reading skills”
