  • Reading Is Fun!

    Funded Mar 30, 2023

Thank you for helping us get started on our own personal class library with books chosen by my students.

In my classroom, the students get to choose books that they enjoy reading, and then sometimes they would act out scenes or certain paragraphs that caught their attention and share it with the rest of the class.

We have a small corner with touch lights and carpet that my students use to enjoy reading books all of the books they chose, but "Michelle Obama" and "Stamped" stood out the most to them.

Skills that I used to introduced the books to students were getting background information to see how much they knew about the former first lady, I also asked each student how they felt being the new student to help me introduce the book "New Kid."

We look forward to adding more book to our classroom library to help build literacy.”

  • Let's Play Music!

    Funded Feb 8, 2023

My students are learning how to play the recorders, and are having fun learning. They see how playing music can have a positive effect on their behavior and academics.

When students first saw the recorders, they were confused as to what it was and skeptical about using it, but once they tried it, they didn't want to put it away.

Students are allowed to search Youtube for beginning songs they want to learn how to play, I feel by doing this, it helps them stay engaged and wanting to learn more. The best part is that, some of them have asked to enroll in beginning band for next school year.

Thank you for making dreams come true in our class.

We are thinking about what's next in our class, it may be something artistic since many of my students like to draw.”

  • Keeping it Calm!

    Funded Jan 23, 2023

Thank you for funding our class project "Keeping It Calm."

The beanbag and the gel-beaded emotion friends has been a real asset in our calming area. Students are able to come in plop down on the beanbag and either listen to music or just sit quietly until they are ready to express themselves. The gel-bead emotion friends is great hit with my non-verbal students, they can show me how they feel using the emotion friends.

My students were excited when they first saw the bean bag, they all wanted to sit on it to try it out, so they each got a chance to test it out. I put the gel-bead emotion friends on the table and allowed students to show each other how they feel and how they think their classmates feel. They enjoyed both items and are waiting for me to complete another project.”

  • Back on Board!

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

Thank you so much for donating and making it possible for students to transition back to school with new resources they could use.

When my students first seen the calming strips, they thought they were band-aids and were trying to put them on their skin. We laughed, then I explained how they should be used and my students put them on their desk and now use them when they become frustrated or upset to help calm them down.

The affirmation cards were a total hit with my students. Every morning they walk in the classroom and pull a card and discuss it in groups as a part of our morning routine. The affirmation cards has helped my students start their mornings in a positive way.

The next project to exposed students to music notes and drawing as a part of therapy in the classroom.”

  • I'm a Big Kid Now!

    Funded Jun 19, 2022

Thank you so much for funding our class projects. These resources help students become more independent with using the restroom. We will use the resources to potty trained individuals so that they can be empowered and less dependent on teachers and staff. When students are able to do things on their own it makes them feel happy.

My students were eager to use the potty because was pink and they felt they had their own personal toilet just for girls. The first day they seen the pink toilet, I had the girls lined up trying to see who was going to use it first.

Out next project will be chromebooks for students who have issues with handwriting, they can type their work and submit it.”

  • Rounding up Robots!

    Funded Mar 4, 2022

My students and I are using our new resources by putting together robots. This is definitely a first time for both students and myself. So this was challenging and rewarding at the same time.

My students were super excited to see the robots when I opened the box. The put themselves in teams and decided who were going to work with who. My students thanked me for submitting this project for them to give them an experience that they don't get outside the classroom.

Our next step is to put together the other robot and put it on display in our classroom to show off that we are capable of thinking and doing things outside the box.”

  • Bundling Up With Books in Our Bouncing Chairs

    Funded Feb 9, 2022

My students are I are so grateful to you for donating to our class project. My students are able to sit in a quiet space and read the book of choice as many times as they like without fear of knowing someone else has checked out the book.

Some students enjoy reading books about the characters that looks like them, meaning afros, ponytail puffs and going through the same things they're going through.

Some skills that were introduced based on the books: students had to describe the characters, explain the authors point of view and the author's purpose for writing the books. This took their learning to another level being in a special education class where they are not expected to think that high.

Again, thank you so much for donating to our class we really love the books.”

  • Fidgeting Into Learning

    Funded Oct 1, 2021

My students and I are grateful to you for contributing to our class project. We are using our new resources to play jeopardy and Kahoot, we are writing with our pencils, they are working hard so they can choose something from the treasure chest, and finally they are keeping their feet busy with the chair bands.

The look on their faces when our resources arrived was priceless. They were ready to compete against each other using the buzzers and choose from the treasure chest.

The next step for our class is to use our pencils to produce some beautiful writing to display in our class.

Again, my class and I would like to thank each of the donors that contributed to our class.”

  • Sturdiness Is Happiness! Learning With Support!

    Funded Mar 5, 2020

Thank for donating to my project Sturdiness is Happiness, Learning with Support. The students and I were so happy to receive our new tables. The students were eager to help put them together and claim their spot at the table.

The first we did as a class after putting the tables together was to measure spaces so that each student could sit spaced out from each other due to COVID. Then students created name cards and put them on their spot of the table.

To have these new tables allows to students to complete their assignments without the tables leaning to one side due to the legs on the old tables being unsteady.

Our next project is to use the tables to make a tie-dyed shirts for the 100th day of school.

Again, thank for contributing our class project, we greatly appreciate it.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Broadhurst

  • Coloring Away Our Blues!

    Funded Sep 2, 2020

Thank you do much for donating to my class, my students were excited to receive coloring books and crayons. Since most of my students are online they now have resources to help occupy them while learning at the same time.

My students have been learning new reads by using the sight words flash cards. My students now feel good about reading because of the many works they have learned from using the flash cards daily.

My students now have access to online classes and other educational websites with the use of their Kindle reader. The joy and gratefulness received from the student as well as the parent was overwhelming. Students are expressing themselves much better through the use of technology and they are extra proud of themselves.

Again, thank you so much for donating to my class and putting smiles on the faces of my students because they are learning in different ways.”

    With gratitude,
