I can not express the gratitude and appreciation I am feeling right now. I am truly at a loss for words. Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart for your generous donation. My students are going to be so excited when they find out! You have no idea the impact you have made on their lives and mine as well. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”

  • Flexible Seating For Success!

    Funded Jan 20, 2018

My project has been funded, and my students and I are all tremendously excited! With your support, we will be able to turn my class into a more engaging place, where the students will be able to get their hands on some of the more interesting labs, instead of them being done as a teacher demonstration. I am confident that this will increase student engagement, and thus understanding.

The first thing students saw were boxes being delivered to our classroom. Their excitement was unreal, they could not wait to open the boxes. I allowed students to work with a partner to open each box. Our classroom was filled with laughter and gasps of excitement. They could not wait to begin using the seating. It took a few days for them to get used to sharing and learning when to allow others to use a seat that they may have been using. These flexible seating options have not only allowed my students to be more engaged and focused on their learning but they have also helped teach them sharing and compassion.

Moving forward, the next steps for my students will be to hopefully incorporate sensory stations as well as class sets of novels they may find interesting and that are on or around their reading levels. With the flexible seating, I will be able to use all of these materials in an exciting and appropriate way to fuel student learning and achievement. One more time, thank you from the bottom of my heart!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Brahimi

My students are a very diverse group of 5th graders with a wide range of needs and skills. They are active mobile and expressive, and they are also creative. They enter the classroom with varying levels of academic and medical needs. As the world outside of our classrooms change, so do our children. Some students work and think best sitting on the floor, laying on the floor, or working close to the ground. Flexible seating will support students who would rather work at a floor level table or on the ground. You will often find these children kneeling on the chair, standing often or asking to stretch. Studies show that when a personalized environment is created, students are engaged, behavior issues are minimal, learning is happening and academic scores are improving!
