  • Empowering Young Creators With Essential Media Tools.

    Funded May 7, 2024

Thank you! The lapel microphones have proved very useful during interviews! It is difficult to get good sound quality when interviewing students or teachers. Interviews tend not to take place in the classroom, where (often noisy) learning is going on. They are usually held in the doorway (if the kids are interviewing a teacher, they still need to keep their eyes on their class while talking to our team) or in the hallway. Wind and planes make for less than ideal sound quality outside - but that is where your lapel mics have helped out. We get a much crisper, louder sound from our interviewees when they use the mics. We really appreciate the assistance!”

  • Teen Techs in Need of Cleaning Supplies

    Funded Sep 18, 2024

Thank you so much! These specially formulated cleaning cloths will be super useful. Conventional cleaning cloths leave smears on the screen - so your gift is going to be very handy.

We appreciate your remembering our middle schoolers, and for supporting Donors Choose. I don’t know what our Media Center would do without it!”

  • Smile & Shine: Capture Moments, Earn Rewards!

    Funded Aug 14, 2024

Excellent! What a great way to kick off the school year! Thank you. This is going to be very interesting experiment: let's see if we can boost the numbers of teachers who contribute photos for our announcements and social media. Xerox paper is at a premium - you've given us a wonderful carrot to encourage would-be photographers.”

  • Help Us Heal: First Aid Supplies At Our K-8 Center.

    Funded May 2, 2024

Bravo! Thanks to you, our main office, and the middle schoolers who help run it. now have access to basic medical supplies. The blood pressure reader and, of course, the thermometer, have proved particularly useful. As, of course, have the band-aids and the cotton balls.

We have over 800 children in our school, so you can appreciate that the middle schoolers and the office staff have to play Florence Nightingale pretty much every day, as the clinic's opening hours have been reduced.

We very much appreciate the help you have given our kids!”

    Dr. Pearson

  • Every Journalist Needs A Camera!

    Funded Dec 19, 2023

Thanks for the iPad! It really makes a difference to my Journalism class. Now, students who don't have mobile phones can still go out on assignment around the school to take pictures and videos. These are used in Morning Announcements (not what you remember from school - the kids pre-record iMovie shows every day), social media, and, increasingly, in inter-school competitions where kids show off their accomplishments in science, math and art. Once the children come back to the Media Center with the raw footage, it's easy to download it to a MacBook, where they edit the final video. Fun stuff!

Thanks again for having our kids' backs!”

    Dr. Pearson

  • Middle School Videos: Keeping Every Student On The Ball.

    Funded Dec 19, 2023

Thank you for your kind gift!

You supplied our middle school video editors with an extra MacBook, so that more students get hands-on editing experience with iMovie.

The children film clips around school, or in front of a wall in the Media Center that we painted and made into a green screen. Then they import the clips into iMovie and combine them into longer videos, adding titles, sounds and visual effects. These videos are then shown to the entire school during morning announcements.

You can only really learn how to edit by hands-on experimentation with iMovie. Thank you for allowing more students to properly participate in Journalism class!”

    With gratitude,

    Dr. Pearson

  • Clean Screen, Clean Sound

    Funded Apr 21, 2023

Thank you for supplying our middle school Technology class with mics and cleaning supplies.

We plug the mics into Macs, where we prepare our videos using iMovie. We upload photos and videos, then dub them in the studio. Using the laptop mic, the dubbing can sound a little muffled and remote. Your mics have made a tremendous difference! The sound is now crisp and clear. The kids have also worked out how to make sound effects by tapping on the mics - an unexpected bonus.

As for the screen cleaners, with so many children tapping on the laptops, you can imagine how dirty they can get!. The cleaning materials have come in very handy. : )”

    With gratitude,

    Dr. Pearson

  • Middle School Movie Factory

    Funded Dec 21, 2022

Thank you for providing my middle school Telecommunications Class with an extra MacBook! We now have one MacBook for every 3 students.

Let me give an you an idea what the kids produce on the MacBooks. Over the past week, the Morning Announcements have included a photo montages / videos illustrating the national anthem, birthday segments, items on Autism Awareness, information about a school-wide math contest, footage of an honors music festival and interviews with the participants, an explanation of Holocaust Remembrance Day, interviews with kids about the value of homework (some liked it!), jokes, skits, and a whole lot more.

Students have filmed their peers and teachers around the school, made photo montages, worked with hand puppets, enhanced their work with greenscreen and sound effects... They have a blast, because the iMovie app on the MacBooks really allows them to indulge their imaginations!!

I cannot tell you how much we appreciate your help!”

    With gratitude,

    Dr. Pearson

  • Around The World, And Dogman, Too!

    Funded Dec 2, 2022

Thank you for buying us these new copies of the Dogman series, plus the children's Atlases. The new titles went on the library shelves a week ago. The Dogman books were gone within a couple of days. Remember, these are the most popular books in the whole library right now. The children's atlases have been put in a special Geography section, along with plenty of globes and some older, bulkier atlases, where they have been attracting the attention of kids trying to solve our 'Mystery Country' quiz, featured every day on the Morning Announcements. The new atlases are proving particularly popular with our third and fourth graders. So thank you! The children have snapped up the books!”

  • Puppet Newscasters!

    Funded Oct 25, 2022

This message is from Jack + Niko, puppeteers:

Thank you so much for the puppets. We really like them. Niko and I use them for the announcements mainly. We even have our favorite puppets on our home screens. We get really sad when we need to put the puppets back, but sometimes Mr. Pearson lets us play around when we finish everything. Now lets what see Niko thinks.

The puppets are very fun to use. We use them on the announcements to make all the not so fun stuff we need to tell everyone a little more fun. Specifically, we needed to make a video about school IDs, so we used the puppets to make it a little funny! Overall, the puppets have made our announcements and class much better.

We really appreciate the kindness you had to give us the puppets.”

    With gratitude,

    Dr. Pearson

This page belongs to 850 students (in around 50 classes) at a K-8 Center in S. Florida. 88% of our kids come from households with below average income. Most of our parents are immigrants from Central / South America and the Caribbean. Typically, they have low-paying jobs in the local tourism industry. They don't have the time, money, or command of English for our school to have a thriving PTA. 27% of our students are special needs children, bused to our campus from all over the city. (Profoundly Mentally Handicapped to Learning Disabled, including Emotional and Behavioral Disorders, Intellectually Disabled, Autistic, Visually Impaired and Physically Impaired.) The kids love their school library, which serves as both a resource center and a social center – and the library runs on Donors Choose.
