The research is clear: The more children read, the better readers they become. Using this as a basis for teaching literature, I have made every effort to cultivate an environment in which reading is encouraged, fun, and uninterrupted. For various reasons, many of my students do not have the opportunity (or time) to read at home. Hence, a time is set aside for independent reading every single day in my classroom. For at least 30 minutes each day students get to "jump" in to high-quality books and freely read a book of their choice. To make this time a success, we need books, books, and more books! I have a small classroom library, however, I serve a group of voracious young readers and the selections are becoming limited. It is my dream that every child I teach becomes "lost" (or totally immersed) in a good book at least once this year. Your support of our classroom library will help make this dream come true! Your donation will be used to buy more grade-appropriate books which will help to expand the range of fiction and non-fiction books that my students have access to. The storage bins will help keep your gift of books organized in our classroom library. My students are ready and hungry to read. Please help me keep them surrounded by the books they so eagerly need. Your generous gift is not only encouraging young minds to think and grow, it is funding our future.
