  • Stamp It Out!

    Funded Nov 13, 2024

I’m so humbled that you are choosing to support my offbeat plan for an “unplugged” activity for learning science vocabulary. People are surprised kids would be excited to play with “old school” ink pads instead of iPads, but I assure you they’ll be eager to learn how to describe science experiments precisely. Your support in helping them practice with confidence and enthusiasm will pay off in a big way; it truly would not have happened without your generosity.

Thank you so much for your help.”

  • Tools for an Organized Classroom

    Funded May 11, 2024

Thank you so much for your generosity in helping me get my classroom "ducks in a row" over the summer. Because I had access to many of the supplies I needed, it was much less stressful to set up for the new year. I was able to create and organize many resources with the essentials, such as laminating film, copy paper, accordion files, and labeling tools. It was the least stressful transition I've ever had, and you made it possible. When people tell me "we should support teachers more" I always respond with examples of the good people who support my efforts through donors choose (you!). That's the type of support that lets me know people care and want to help.

    Thanks for your uplifting example.”

Thank you for your generous donation. I'd love to share how we are using these new resources in our classroom and the wonderful impact they've had.

When the new materials arrived, the students were buzzing with excitement. They knew they were in for a hands-on activity but weren't sure exactly what it would be. We started a project where each student built a small habitat for a succulent plant. The process was engaging and educational, and when they finished, the thrill was palpable—they were overjoyed to learn they could take their plants home and care for them all summer. This wasn't just another classroom-only project; it was something tangible and lasting.

This STEM project not only teaches them about plant care and responsibility but also gives them a sense of accomplishment and ownership. They now have a living reminder of their efforts and the lessons they learned, and I'm confident this has expanded their perspective on what it means to be a scientist.

As for next steps, I foresee projects where students collaborate while designing simple ecosystems in terrariums to observe, documenting interactions between plants and small creatures using the same mindset and procedures they are learning for engineering projects. This will further their understanding of ecological principles and the importance of caring for the environment.

Your support has truly made a difference, and we are so grateful. Thank you once again for giving my students the opportunity to engage in meaningful, lasting projects that extend beyond the classroom.”

  • Color My World

    Funded Jan 18, 2024

At a time of the year when school supplies are dwindling and the nice crayons and full sheets of paper are so hard to come by, you really came through and made it possible for my first-graders to make JUMBO clocks in math class. They had so much fun designing their analog clocks. After class, some girls decided to make tiny wristwatches and bracelets out of the scraps. I wish I'd have thought to take pictures of those too.

Every time I bring out the crayons, the kids are really excited. By this time of year, their personal stores of colors have been reduced to literal shards, and a lot of time is wasted while they hunt for black, red, or yellow for the next assignment. Having a replenished supply of crayons is so helpful for keeping us on track. THANK YOU so much for your thoughtful and purposeful support.”

  • Outfit a Real Mini-Library

    Funded Aug 23, 2023

Thank you for contributing to the effort for building a more inviting and organized library center in my first grade classroom. I wish you could have been there the day the furniture was delivered; it was ready-to-build except for needing a screwdriver, so we weren't able to build it immediately. All the children were eager to help put the units together as soon as possible, but it was easy to tell that it would just not be possible to have everyone working on it simultaneously.

Though it was tempting to just stay late one day and build it all myself, it seemed to me all the kids would be more mindful of taking care of the library if they had direct experience in caring for it, so I decided to grab a few "teachable moments" over the next week or so. I didn't want to draw it out indefinitely, but investing time going over the crucial safety, planning, and cooperation aspects of reaching our goal really paid off.

I regret not taking more pictures of the process; all the work started seeping into our regular instruction, so I kept forgetting to pause and appreciate the effort we all put in.

But I assure you this group of children is used to "making do" with whatever is around, and having something important and special delivered just for them was extremely esteem-boosting. I can't thank you enough for that experience.”

  • Dress for Science Safety and Success

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

Thank you again for supporting our littlest learners. My kiddos are always eager to do experiments in science class, and they especially look forward to being the lab's presenter to describe the results of the experiments, wearing "science uniforms."

The attached pictures show our class learning about inclined planes, which we needed to use while learning about forces and motion. I wish there was audio to go with this; as soon as the scientists come to the front to present, an actual hush occurs. The kids started their talk, holding their audience in rapt attention. What you cannot hear is the internal conversation in their heads: "I am a scientist. This is serious." I know those ideas are in there, because we've talked about what it means to think and act like a scientist. At their age, they realize that apoearance and representation matters, although they don't say it exactly like that. But now they are understanding they are included. They matter. You, dear donor, helped spark that idea.

It is REAL. These are scientists...thanks to you.”

  • Kindergarteners Can Learn to Code!

    Funded Apr 9, 2023

Your generosity has brought joy to my kiddos learning basic coding principles. They've taken to it so quickly and are able to work collaboratively and on their own. They are so proud of being able to program increasingly complex instructions; I hope you can see some of that pride in the photos. Their problem-solving conversations and negotiations are fairly sophisticated, and I love listening to them as they teach each other. You made all this possible and I cannot thank you enough because none of this could have happened without you.”

  • Read-Along Books for STEM Learning

    Funded Jun 1, 2023

Your generosity in providing read-along books for our classroom listening center is greatly appreciated! My first graders are thrilled to have the new book sets that they can read along with in their listening center, partner read to each other, or enjoy on their own. Their favorites are the animal books from National Geographic because of the vivid pictures and interesting facts about animals such as giraffes, cheetahs, monkeys, dolphins, sloths, hedgehogs, and meerkats.

It is so gratifying to see children become excited about new books that quickly become established favorites. Without your help, our classroom library would be less colorful, engaging, and interactive. Thank you so much.”

  • A Kindergarten Listening Center

    Funded May 15, 2023

It seemed like such an insurmountable challenge to expose my kiddos to books they really want to read but are just barely out of their reach just now. Then you came in and knocked down the barriers with your generosity. I really truly can't express my gratitude sufficiently to let you know what a difference this makes already.

RC came to Meet the Teacher night 6 weeks ago and did an "All About Me" activity. He said, "How do you spell 'I hate books? I want to write that.'" Uh -oh...a tough customer. But he's turning the corner now, thanks to the listening center where he can pop in a CD and learn about Cheetahs, Race cars, Volcanoes, and Dinosaurs and can't wait until it's library time to go see if he can find more books like these.

You did that. Thank you very very much.”
