Funded Aug 19, 2018With our new building sets that you so graciously made possible, the Bobcat Engineers have been very busy building amazing creations! They get the opportunity to build almost every time they come to the Engineering Lab. Sometimes they build in groups and other times they get to build independently. Either way, having a variety of building sets are really challenging the students to stretch their imaginations and think like engineers. For example, we read the book "If I Built a House" by Chris Van Dusen, where a boy imagines how he would build the house of his dreams. We then drew sketches of what our dream house would look like. Finally, we used those sketches to build models of our houses using building sets of our choosing. The results were amazing!
The students were thrilled to see their selection of building materials expand to so many more options. They were amazed that people would be so generous to donate these building sets to our lab. They also felt very lucky that our school was able to benefit from the generosity of people that don't even know who they are. They had a blast going around and trying out each set to see how they work and what possibilities are available to them now. It's hard to even imagine that at one time our lab only had very minimal options for building materials.
There are so many potential uses for our building sets. These materials enable the students to engage in the crucial "Create" step of the Engineering Design Process. This step is where engineers get to test out their designs and make necessary improvements. One of the best things about using our building sets for this purpose is that they are completely 100% reusable. Our entire school uses the Engineering Lab, so these materials are able to be taken apart and put back together again by many different engineers.
We are so grateful for our Donors Choose donors!!!”
