  • Let's Practice Math!

    Funded Aug 26, 2022

I want to share with you how truly grateful I am for your support in my classroom! Teaching upper level mathematics and honors level kids allows me the freedom and ability to bring technology into the classroom and at their fingertips. The calculators were a tremendous help in getting them to see math in a different way. They were able to create Scatter Plots both by hand and more accurately using the graphing calculators that were provided by you!

It was amazing to see how interested they were and having that technology at their fingertips. They were able to put into a visualization what we had been learning in class and apply it to a real world situation. We also used these calculators to construct a regression for our Barbie doll bungee jumping projects. The kids loved it!

And a very special thank you for the support with our Expo markers! There's just something about writing with a marker that makes learning math fun! Kids take notes in their notebooks and can't wait to bust out the markers to start doing practice problems. It's such a small thing that really gets kids the Hands-On learning experience in working problems and practicing them on their own. I don't know what it is about the markers but they love them. And I love it when they practice math!

Thank you again so much for your support and helping my students to learn and love math!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. M.

  • Laying the Foundation with Algebra Tiles

    Funded Sep 23, 2012

Where to begin...thank you so much! The algebra tiles are something that I have wanted for quite some time. I wasn't sure exactly how much they would help, but after a little homework on my part, and your help, the kids are doing much better with combining like terms and factoring polynomials. The tiles are a really great way for them to be able to see things, and working hands on just seems to help them make so much more sense out of things. We (my class and I) are very grateful for your help. The infinite algebra II software is also amazing, I love it because I can switch things up or give extra practice to my students, and my students send an extra big thank you, because on days with worksheets, they do not have to carry books! Thank you very much for your continued support to my classroom, and more importantly my students educations!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. M.

  • Odds and Ends to a Better Classroom

    Funded Dec 29, 2011

Thank you so much for the support on my project once again! These items have made a tremendous difference in my classroom. As you can see from the pictures, we were able to use markers again on a daily basis, which truly and surprisingly makes all the difference in the world to the kids. When you have them use a pencil, forget about it, they don't feel like participating, but once you throw a marker in to things, I have 100% participation, and it wouldn't be possible without your support. We were also able to use the frog magnets as game pieces when reviewing, and each team had a frog they were trying to get to the finish line, it was a ton of fun for the kids. And lastly the pencils and different colored markers, for my visual learners, it makes the world of a difference, being able to see exactly where things are plugged in and how they make a part of the bigger picture. Again from both myself and my students, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you for deciding to support us in our learning!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. M.

  • Seeing is Believing; Doing is Comprehending

    Funded Dec 6, 2011

Yay! Thank you so much for supporting my classroom, all of my students, and me! By supplying my classroom with markers, you have allowed us to work on a different level which is capable of engaging students, and making them far more interested in math! The use of the whiteboards and markers, allow us to work on practice problems, easily making corrections, and allow for easy use of group work, being able to compare work and answers. The whiteboards are now used on a daily basis in class, and the kids love using them to work out the problems. Thank you so much for your support, both I and the students appreciate more than words can say!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. M.

  • Bungee Jumping with Barbie and More...

    Funded Aug 14, 2011

Well, where to start?! First of all thank you once again for your generosity and donations to my classroom. Both my students and I appreciate it more than you know. The items that were donated to my classroom, as you know allowed us to continue practicing our math hands-on with whiteboards (which we still are using on a daily basis), and allowed my students to participate in a bungee jumping with Barbie activity. My students benefited from this project in more ways than one, and I can certainly say that they project made the difference when compared to my past experiences with scatter plots, in terms of their success and comprehension of the material.

On the day of Barbie's plunge, kids were anxiously awaiting the drops and were practicing within the classroom prior to making our trip to the drop site...they were absolutely pleased to be doing the project and were truly excited about math...you may understand that is not an everyday thing! In today's society, math is an integral part of our lives, and by implementing these type of activities, I am able to make hands-on, real-life connections for these kids, which peaks their interest in learning math.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for making all of this a possibility!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. M.

Many of my students are entering the 1st half of an Algebra 1 class...some of them are incoming freshman, while others are struggling sophomores and sometimes juniors trying to understand and get math. While they are great kids, a lot of times they just do not have the internal motivation or curiosity to learn math. I try to change that attitude in my classroom by practicing math on a daily basis using whiteboards. The whiteboards make learning and practicing math fun, and students come into class each day eager to get to the part of class in which they start to use the whiteboards...it’s fun for me when they get to the point where they are begging me to take the whiteboards out.
