This classroom project was brought to life by The Allstate Foundation.Keep Us Safe and Healthy With Oral Motor Toys!
Funded Mar 15, 2015My students are having a very productive year thanks to your generous donations. All thought my students are non-verbal they showed a great appreciation for the materials you helped supply.
Every day my students are able to learn and work to the best of their ability because of the chewy tubes and oral motor items you supplied. In the past my students had an impossible time getting through any work without engaging in dangerous behavior and putting non-edible items in their mouths. With the distraction of the chewy tubes they are able to get through many lessons and have learned math and literacy skills that I think will benefit them throughout their entire lives.
My class and I are so grateful for the support you have given us this year. My ability to teach these particular students and their ability to learn has been improved dramatically thanks to your generosity.”

Help Us Learn to Communicate!
Funded Oct 18, 2014Thank you so much for donating to our project. The materials you provided have helped me organize our learning environment so that is the most effective for children with autism. The children definitely like the shiny new materials and have learned a huge amount with them.
I have been able to make a ton of durable material for my students to use. Some of these include adaptive story books, daily schedules, signed with basic info, classroom rules, token boards, math lessons, social stories and so much more! My students love to work and love the consistency that I can provide for them because of the laminating paper you provided for us.
Children with autism need consistency, routine and a ton of durable materials. Because you provided for this project I can give them exactly what they need! Thank you so much!!!!!”

Funded Dec 19, 2010Thank you for your generous gift. My students have already begun to reap the benefits of your donation. So much hard work has gone into teaching my students to be independent. Teaching them to achieve is extremely important. With the new activities, made possible by your donation, my students have begun to expand their functional math repertoire. I am confident that their growth and independence will benefit them throughout their lives.
When the new materials were presented to my students I could see their excitement. They immediately accepted the new activities into their independent work schedules. Teaching them to use the new activities went very smoothly. They were very excited about the new materials and were eager to use them. Some of the students are already using the new activities independently. Consequently, I can already see growth in my students.
I am able to use the materials that you have provided to prepare my students for weekly shopping trips and all aspects of their schedules. Watching them make the connection between money in the classroom and money in the community has been a wonderful experience. In addition to money we now use real time to decide when we should do things. Looking at a clock and understanding what it means is wonderful! All of these skills will most definitely benefit the students as they begin their adult lives.
My students are emerging in functional math skills. The materials you have provided us have made a positive difference. On behalf of my students, I am most grateful to you for your support.

Funded Feb 23, 2011Thank you so much for your support to this project. I have written many projects but this one has been most exciting.
I have a student in my class I would like to tell you about. He is 12 years old, around 5'6, he is non-verbal and has some serious behavior issues. Reaching out to him has been very challenging. He did not appear to know about many things or respond to verbal requests. Since we received the camera has been taking pictures of his peers and teachers. Today I told him to take a picture of Ms. J, and he went to her, took a picture then came back for another direction! I asked him to take a picture of a certain student, and he did! He has also taken pictures of items and places in the school upon request. People in the school have come to him for pictures. This opens the door for great social experiences. Having a camera in his hands makes people are interested! When he reviews the pictures he smiles and laughs. I know he can remember everything about the picture and it allows him to think about all the great memories of his school day. As a teacher, I am thrilled!!!
The students I work with are a very special population. Finding a way to teach them information and then getting a response is really challenging. When I find the right tool the learning is incredible! In the few days that we have had this camera I can already see changes in the students, especially the one mentioned above. On behalf of my students, I am most grateful to you for your support. ”

Funded Dec 15, 2010Thank you for your generous donation. My classroom and teaching has changed drastically since receiving the iPad from this proposal. I now have a teaching tool that all of my students look at with interest.
There are so many applications that are appropriate for my students. I have downloaded apps for reading, writing, math, social studies, science and language skills. Within minutes of being introduced to the iPad my students knew how to use it. We have incorporated it into all parts of the school day. The students really enjoy a weather application that allows us to check the weather for dismissal time. In the community we have used it to create class shopping lists, look at maps of where we are and communicate about what we are doing. I can add pictures of what we are doing as we do it. The students can see themselves immediately. We have done lessons about important people and places in the school and community. All these lessons teach my students to be more aware of their surroundings and actions. The iPad is a great visual tool and my students are visual learners.
I am so proud of one student in particular. This student has a very short attention span and usually looses his attention while taking out material in preparation for a lesson. When he first saw the iPad he was extremely curious. Its big bright display and beautiful graphics caught his eye immediately. He has been reading interactive storybooks, focusing on writing and matching activities and sitting for 10 minutes at a time!
In addition to class instructional time the students are enjoying the iPad in their leisure time. Finding age appropriate activities for my students has always been a great challenge, the iPad is the best! They love to listen to music and use the drawing apps.
Thanks to your donation my students are learning new things and loving it! The iPad has allowed me to teach new things with ease and given my students access to new interests. This iPad will be used by my current students and many more to come. ”

Funded Apr 16, 2009Thank you for your generous donation. My kids and I greatly appreciate your kindness and generosity. We are having a very successful year and are looking forward to more success in the future.
With a new laminating machine I have been able to make great materials that my students and many future will benefit from. Having the ability to customize materials to meet my students exact needs is a very important part of being a special educator. All of my student have different needs and fulfilling them is very challenging. Being able to protect the materials I customize, and we use every day, allows me more time to give my students individual attention.
Your gift has allowed me to teach my students exactly what they need to know. I am very thankful for the laminating machine and laminating paper that you have given us.”
