  • Reading and Relating

    Funded Jan 16, 2025

Thank you so much for your generosity in helping this project come to life!

Fostering a love of reading is so important to me and I hope that these books will allow that love to grow and flourish.

I am excited to report back and tell you which novel was their favorite!

Again, thank you so very much!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Phelan

  • Learning Through LEGOS!

    Funded Oct 31, 2024

Thank you so much for your support in bringing this project to life! We have used the legos that you helped us get across multiple subjects!

In writing, students created something and then wrote a story about the item(s). In the slideshow you might see a zoo!

In math, students used a Lego to represent their whole and then they needed to show understanding for various parts of the whole. For example they showed me 1/2 of the whole, 1/3 of the whole and 1/4 of the whole.

In STEAM, they needed to create a 10" structure that would withstand a simulation of an earthquake.

Needless to say they have been so much fun and we have been using them frequently!

Thank you again for your generosity and support!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Phelan

    Funded May 15, 2024

Thank you so much for all of your support in bringing this project to life!

Today, I was able to give the students this year their new planners for the 24-25 school year! They were all very excited to write in their assignments and use them! I am excited to assist them in becoming more organized and prepared for both the year as well as their future endeavors.

Again, thank you so much for your generosity and support in helping shape our wonderful students to become successful, organized future leaders.”

    With gratitude,

  • Mechanical Sculptures That Will Bring Our Stories to Life!

    Funded Dec 29, 2023

Thank you so much for your support and bringing this project to life! My students had an absolute blast creating and making their cardboard automata! The problem solving, creativity that this project fostered was so meaningful on so many levels for my students! They also had so much fun designing and creating various different pieces that were all different and really highlighted each individual student and their spirit.

I am excited to incorporate what they have learned and accomplished through this project with topics that are going to be introduced soon!

Thank you again for your generosity and support!”

  • Fever Novel Study

    Funded Mar 31, 2023

Thank you so much for your donation in giving my class the possibility of everyone receiving a copy of the book, Fever.

I have been eager to start this novel with my class as I think it will be a great way for our students to compare and contrast the pandemic of COVID-19 and the epidemic of Yellow Fever. I also think sadly it will be extremely relatable and yet also captivating for our students having survived COVID-19.

So again, thank you so much for your generous contribution, we greatly appreciate the support!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Phelan

  • Inclusion and Acceptance Matters!

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

On behalf of my classroom and other teachers that I have shared these books with, I wanted to say thank you so much for your contribution in bringing this project to life.

It is my hope that through adding these books to our classroom library kids are seen, valued, celebrated and accepted. We all are different and that is beautiful. With these various books, students gain empathy, learn about various disabilities, cultivate conversations, collaborate and work together in a more productive, healthy environment where all persons are included. As they learn and grow and from these various books they can take that out into the world and be more inclusive and accepting humans towards others.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Phelan

  • Learning About Ourselves and Countries We are From!

    Funded Jun 26, 2023

On behalf of all my students and myself, I wanted to express how grateful I am for your support and bringing this project to life. We now have in our classroom a wonderful array of books about various countries in our classroom.

Several of my students have loved ones who work multiple jobs and are not able to take them to the library to borrow books. This project has made it equitable and accessible for all my students. Students are able to research and present a wonderful project about their own ethnicity, heritage or country of their interest.

Thanks again for your support! You are so appreciated!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Phelan

  • Planners to Prepare and Take Care of Assignments

    Funded Mar 2, 2023

Thank you so much for your support in providing our entire 6th grade class with academic planners for the school year. This allows them to work on their organizational skills and prepare them for their future.

The academic planners have also been a great way to keep parents and guardians connected and in the loop of what is happening as well as expected at home. They are also able to write any questions, comments or concerns they may have to their child's teacher.

It has really been a blessing to have them and hopefully it will make this year even more successful! Thank you again for your continued support!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Phelan

  • Listening and Learning

    Funded May 9, 2023

Thank you for your generosity and support in bringing this project to life. With your support, my entire class has an entire class set of durable working headphones, a place to store them as well as wipes to clean and sanitize if need be. This will allow my students to work independently in different stations and centers as well as using them for state testing. Providing them with the headphones releases a burden too on my students families.

So again, thank you on behalf of all my students. We are so appreciative of your kindness.”

Thank you so much for your generosity and support in bringing this project to life. Through your assistance, we now have a class set of Pay it Forward! It is my hope that through reading this book that it will inspire my students to do good deed and pay it forward for others.

It has been a great way to end the year and heading out into summer to keep in mind that small acts can make a big difference in the world.

Again, thank you so much for your support and generosity! We will continue to pay it forward...”

In a time where empathy is vital to learn about each other and our past I strive to cultivate a classroom that allows students to learn about the events and experiences that have shaped our history as a country and state. In my entire career of teaching, I have always been left wanting more from my students history textbooks. Too often are they extremely outdated and they often only tell one perspective and lack engagement. Through this project, I want to encourage my students to hear about all the perspectives that make up our history as Americans. The majority of my students come from a low socio-economic status and are English Language Learners. There is a huge struggle to identify with what is being taught in 4th/5th grade social studies curriculum. These books will continue to enhance a print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My goal is to blend History and Language Arts within my curriculum (for distance learning and in the classroom). Through these books and their various written perspectives it will increase cross cultural awareness and understanding. With the chapter books where the main character is a child or young person living through a specific historical event in US it will help my students identify, learn about, and engage with our past. I hope to not only promote a general knowledge of historical events, but a love of reading, and a validation of their perspective in life.
