Kindle a Fire Beneath Me
Funded Oct 24, 2012The arrival of the new Kindle Fire HD created quite a disturbance in my classroom as each student anticipated the opening of the box. This is the kind of joy a teacher looks forward to in their careers, excitement for learning and exploration. My students started to immediately research their American West hero and enjoyed the spelling/math games I loaded. Their enthusiasm for learning brought joy to my heart!
The world is such a better place because of people like you and DonorsChoose who made it possible to provide my students with something they needed. I just wanted to express my gratitude for your generous donations to this project. May you be blessed in return with the things you stand in need of. Thank you!”

Funded Mar 21, 2012I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone that donated to this project. I also want to thank Donors Choose Friends and Family and Savings.com matching funds programs. My students absolutely love the science board games! They arrived in plenty of time to get in some review for the upcoming state tests. It is a wonderful feeling to see my students interact in such a fun way by helping each other with the answers to these games. There is a definite excitement in the air when we bring out these materials. It is difficult to keep the noise level down!! Thanks again to all who helped make this a positive experience for my group of future leaders.”

I Can't Find the Book I Need!!
Funded Feb 27, 2012Wow! When our new Kindle Fire arrived, there was definite excitement as each of my students wondered when they would get a chance to use it. In addition to using it to read the downloaded books such as The Hunger Games, we have used it to locate information for some of the Internet projects my students are working on right now. It makes my day when I see the widened eyes and smiles as I power up the Kindle. I wish I had more of them. I knew it would be a great motivator to read, but this is beyond belief!
We really enjoyed using the Kindle Fire to read aloud some of Dr. Seuss's books to honor his birthday on March 2. Even such a simple book as The Lorax brought higher level thoughts as my students found the true meaning and author's message through the words they read. It came at a perfect time to compare the book to the movie that was just released in theaters.
I can't thank you enough for all your generous donations through Donors Choose. You have put a spark of life into my students as they endeavor into the realm of reading. I have always told them that books are avenues to endless adventures and knowledge. With your kindness I hope that they will continue to be inspired to read throughout their lives. Thank you!

Desperately Seeking Technology!
Funded Jan 30, 2012To all my donors and matching corporations,
I want to tell you about the overwhelming excitement that my students displayed when the boxes of our Galaxy tablet and accessories arrived. First of all, deciding who would use it first and when the others could use it was tricky. All 32 students wanted to be first!
We have been using it to research planet information so that we can make travel brochures. In addition, we have also been utilizing the math websites for core standards using game-based lessons and competitions with other schools world-wide. The student motivation has increased dramatically to do online research and work as a team. The smiles and work habits of my students has motivated me to create more projects for them to work on besides boring worksheets.
My heart is full of joy and gratitude as I thank all of you for your generosity. You have helped instill a dedication to learning in this fantastic bunch of students. Thank you!!”

Clay Comes to Life: Digital Storytelling
Funded Jan 20, 2012My students love the ease and quickness of their new pencil sharpener. It was a much needed essential to our classroom. When the clay box arrived it was hard to contain the excitement. This wonderful group of students have started their first clay animation project with enthusiasm. The first group has made their storyboard and now are making the background and clay characters.
It is such a joy to see the students collaborate and assign each other roles and duties. They are totally supportive of the unique talents each brings to the project. I can hardly wait to see the outcome of "Neil Armstrong Meets the Alien". I wish for more time in the day to work on this project.
None of this would have been possible without the support of everyone of my donors! Thank you once again, you are totally awesome!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Kenaston
