This project is using block printing techniques via Styrofoam and colored ink. Utilizing this method will teach my students elements of state art standards such as use of positive and negative spacing, texture, value, color, and appreciation of artist methods. This project helps the students to learn more about the artist Andy Warhol and his expert use of the medium. We could use construction paper, but this is not ideal for the students. Using this format lacks the impact of the traditional block printing standards that one would get from using the Styrofoam and colored ink. Using construction paper leaves the picture flat with no true texture, value, color, and appreciation of artists as one would get with paint or ink. This project would be age appropriate for all of my students for this coming semester and would have a large positive impact on the community as a whole. I say this because the children can take their art pieces home and give them to their families which educates the child and other family members to the artist as well as style. Art has a way of creating hope in bleak situations, and I want our project to hang on as many refrigerators as possible. This would create a positive impact for students and the community.
