The supplies that I need include rocket kits and engines. These materials will enhance my students learning and promote active learning by showing them that they can build a working model rocket. The Rocket Club will give the students the opportunity to participate in an after school program. The club will help create young engineers who design, build, paint, problem solve use math skills while having fun! These are life skills that are important now and later in life. Students will learn the basics of rocket flight. The students will become familiar with the history of rockets. We will examine Newton's Three Laws, aerodynamic, engineering design, and different forms of recovery. We will learn to control forces such as: • Lift – this is how the flow of air over the rocket helps it fly • Weight – this is what lift works to overcome • Thrust – the force that the burning fuel, or even that causes to push the rocket forward • Drag – this is how much the air pushes back against the rocket. The program will is challenging and will help students become critical thinkers and life long learners. We have prizes for such things as most creative rocket, closest landing to the launch pad, highest flight, and longest flight. We will have a blast and learn many scientific skills.
