  • Sensory Blankets for Grandfriends

    Funded Jan 20, 2025

Thank you so very much for donating to our sensory blanket project for our Grandfriends at Monette Manor, our local nursing home. My students will be so excited to have the supplies that they need to get to work. Your generous donation will empower my students as they organize and create this project. We appreciate it very much.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sanders

  • Games for Grandfriends

    Funded May 21, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our Games for Grandfriends project. My students were so excited to open our boxes when the games came in. We were able to take our games for the first time today to our local nursing home, Monette Manor. My students and our Grandfriends had so much fun playing Connect Four, Jenga, as well as other games. The games provided an activity to serve as conversation starters. We shared lots of laughs and smiles and can't wait to go back again. Our Grandfriends kept telling us thank you for coming and asked when we would be back. Thank you for helping us make this happen!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sanders

  • Speak Up For Grandfriends

    Funded Apr 14, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our Speak Up for Grandfriends projects. My students have implemented virtual visits with residents at our local nursing home using Google Meet. Some of my students are very soft spoken and our elderly "Grandfriends" were having a hard time hearing my students. With the Donors Choose Grant, we were able to get two portable voice amplifiers. Now our Grandfriends can hear us clearly. Conversations aren't stalled because of not being able to hear.

The Donors Choose Grant also provided us with conversation starter cards. These cards have enabled us to have meaningful conversations with our Grandfriends. It gets us talking about topics that we probably would not have thought of on our own. Instead of feeling nervous about an upcoming virtual visit, my students are excited because they are prepared with the conversation starter cards.

Thank you so much for your generous donation. We are truly appreciative.”

  • Fidget Blankets

    Funded Apr 10, 2024

My students were so excited to get the supplies that they needed to create fidget blankets for our Grandfriends at Monette Manor. We have actually finished two of the blankets and delivered them. The activity director at Monette Manor was genuinely appreciative of our efforts. She is certain that her residents will use and enjoy the blankets.

When my students opened the package, there were squeals of excitement! Anyone that has worked with high school students knows that getting them really excited about anything at school can be a chore. We had such a fun time opening the packages and going through the new supplies.

Now we find ourselves at the end of the school year. We are very grateful to have been able to deliver two of the completed blankets. We have several more in the works. We can't wait for school to start in the fall to get busy making more. Thank you for your generous donation. It is very much appreciated!”

  • Adopt a Grandfriend

    Funded May 9, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our Adopt a Grandfriend project. The two iPads that we were given through this project have been instrumental in helping us build connections with the residents at Monette Manor, our local nursing home. Students are able to visit virtually with their "grandfriends" without leaving school. This enables us to set up regular visitations so students can build real relationships with the nursing home residents.

Two of my students, Faith and Jessica, have organized the project. They met with the nursing home's activity director to set everything up. We look forward to building relationships with our Grandfriends for years to come. Thank you again for your help with this worthwhile project.”

  • Helping Hands

    Funded Jan 1, 2023

Our EAST project helped children in foster care. We made up 60 drawstring bags with personal care items in it such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, feminine care, and more! Whenever we got all of the supplies all of us were very thankful that we were able to get everything we needed to make these bags.

We donated all the bags to a foster care ministry called Together We Foster in Jonesboro, AR. The foster care ministry was so thankful that we got them bags and said it would help so much. Thank you for being the kind of person who cares about others.

Thank you very much for helping out with the expenses of this project. We really appreciate your willingness to assist. Thank you so much for your generous donation. This helped us out significantly. Again, please accept my sincere appreciation for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sanders

  • Supporting Sensory Needs

    Funded Oct 26, 2022

We just want to take the time to thank you for your generous donation for our sensory project. The students were very excited and ready to play with the sensory boards when we brought them in. When they heard we had something for them, their eyes lit up with joy. Each child took a turn on each board. They all had their favorite parts. All the kids loved the sensory boards very much. In all the pictures we got, they looked very happy.

The students use the sensory boards during sensory time which is right before lunch. They also use the boards before getting on the bus or going home. The sensory board with the steering wheel has became their favorite this week. Using the boards has given them something productive to keep them engaged during transition times.

The next idea for this classroom is restaurant life skills. They are needing salt and pepper shakers they can fill up, a place to wash dishes, and something to roll silverware. We are planning on working on this project soon.

Thank you again for your help making this project become a reality.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sanders

  • Veteran's History Project Audio Equipment

    Funded Nov 11, 2016

I can not begin to tell you how thankful I am for your generous donation to my project, Veterans History Project Audio Equipment. My students are so excited to record the oral histories of veterans in our area. We hope to record as many of their stories as possible to send in to the Veterans History Project with the Library of Congress. We have been able to record an interview with a World War II veteran, and we're so thankful for our new microphone to help us achieve much better sound quality. We have several interviews lined up in the new few weeks to continue our goal. I'm very appreciative to donors like yourself for taking the time to make an investment in our project.”

  • Audacious Arduino Projects: Helping the Blind Navigate

    Funded Dec 31, 2015

Thank you so very much for donating to our Arduino project. My students were very excited to get our new supplies and start learning. Arduino is an open-source electronics platform that senses the environment by receiving inputs from sensors. My students have created an interactive project to help the visually impaired "see with sound." We received a sensor in our Arduino supplies that could be used to detect objects within a set distance. After many hours of studying and watching tutorials online, they have created several Arduino boards that are actually in the hands of a couple of our community members and making a difference.

One of our students' little brother is in a wheelchair and has trouble navigating. The Arduino board helps him to know when to stop so he doesn't run in to things. We've also given an Arduino board to a visually impaired community member to help him better get around town on his bicycle. He was very appreciative of our help.

Your donation to our project helped this idea become a reality. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sanders
