All my kindergarteners are students of color from a high poverty neighborhood. Almost all students are learning English as their Second Language. Most of my student's parents do not speak English and have little means to help them learn English at home. Although they live and play in a high poverty and high crime neighborhood, my students are determined to come to school every day and learn even though the odds are against them. They are exposed to a "College for certain" motto at an early age, and my kiddos have no doubt that is where they are headed!
