  • Stand Up and Make Music

    Funded Oct 12, 2023

Every Fall we have an outside festival called "Trunk and Treat Harvest Fest" We invite students and their families and other community members to come and participate in outside games, bouncy houses, and delectibles. Our orchestra was invited to play at the event, which we did in two different locations of the festival. The students were able to take their instruments and their stands outside to set up for the festival without a problem and less hassle because the new music stands that we received were lightweight, strong, and adequate to hold the music without it blowing away since the stands came with a clip to hold the music. We are so grateful for your generosity. We are so thankful for the DonorsChoose Community and the anonymous partner who made this happen. Thank you very much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Fitch

  • Portraits and Then Some!

    Funded Aug 25, 2023

This presentation included students from the band, orchestra, and choral programs. Mr. Hudson's talents are incredible. One of the highlights of the event was when students proclaimed his artwork looked like photographs. She kept wanting to refer back to the picture of his painting to study it. The questions that the students asked were so impressive. They were amazed and appreciative for having had the opportunity to learn from him.

Also during the presentation, Mr. Hudson showed the students how to create their very own portrait masterpiece. Thank you so much for the opportunity.”

  • Begin in Unison/End in Harmony

    Funded Aug 10, 2023

Students are learning to read music. They are learning how many beats there are to a measure, and even what a measure is. They are also learning how many beats certain notes receive. What the music is written on and how to multi-task doing it. These skills will help any musician become more fluent in their craft and will give them confidence to take their music education further.

Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness and support. Our students are so happy with the work they are doing in class. Their instrument playing and singing are so beautiful. Wish you could hear.”

  • Bada Bing With the Drum

    Funded Mar 28, 2023

The things we were able to do this school year was fantastic. The Lollipop hand drums were a big "hit". Students were able to strengthen their meter by practicing rhythms with a metronome. With COVID still upon us at the start of the school year, students were quite anxious. The fidget was made available to anyone who needed it as an anti anxiety tool.

The wood drumsticks were also fantabulous! We had a virtual classroom clinician join us and teach our students some of the more complicated rhythms using words. The students absolutely loved the class and was very participatory.

We just cannot thank you enough for being so generous.”

  • The Climate and Me!

    Funded May 5, 2023

We are so grateful for you. Our students learned about climate change through a cross-curriculum lesson. Hearing about what they already knew about climate change and adding to that knowledge made it all worthwhile.

After the lesson on climate change, students were able to listen to climate-change protest songs. Songs that were both catchy and popular and by well-known artists of their time. After hearing the music and analyzing the lyrics of the songs, students were able to embark on their own journey of writing a song about climate change.

After writing the songs, students were encouraged to share their song with their peers.

The project was successful and the students seemed to really enjoy it.

You are the best. Thank you.”

  • Have a Seat in Music

    Funded Feb 9, 2023

Again you came through. We are so thankful for your generosity. The seat helps our students with their poster while playing the piano. It is so versatile. Using it during concerts while the band is playing then later while the orchestra is playing is fantastic. It helps to bring unity to the two disciplines, being able to share. Also there are the cello end-pin stoppers. This is just a God-send. There were three new students that began playing cello. Having the endpins gave them the ability to really understand the magnitude of their musicianship. You are the best!”

  • Performance Reception

    Funded Feb 9, 2023

On May 4th we had our Annual Spring Concert and Fashion Show. The music department was there performing in full force and the event was fabulous. The band, orchestra and chorus performed. Before the event, students stayed after school and practiced before the event began. Because of your generosity we were able to supply students with a light reception that included snacks and drinks. Thank you so much for your kindness. Students were successful performing and filled with the joy of food, snacks and drinks. Thank you again.”

  • Music Talks with Glennroy & Company

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

Our virtual visit from Mr. Bailey was awesome. The students were so excited about the visit. They were able to get an idea of what a working musician who worked in the school system as a music teacher with students like them was all about. Mr. Bailey spoke candidly to students about career opportunities for musicians and which one's he has worked with. He also played his instrument and had an accompanist who played the piano for him as he played. It was awesome! He kept the students on the edge of their seats.”

  • Drumming with Regina

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

Your generosity has made all the difference in the lives of our scholars. Having a working artist present to them virtually has given them the opportunity to hear from a drummer who is working professionally with professional recording artists.

She also works with students in after school programs and also runs a program herself. She was personable and students really appreciated her taking the time to talk with them. Scholars were able to ask the questions that were important to them. She was very interactive with the students and told us several times how much they loved the virtual visit.

    We cannot thank you enough!”

  • Let's Learn About Sound

    Funded Aug 8, 2022

For some students music classes is the reason why they come to school. Learning while in class is the cherry on top. Our lesson on sound was met with enthusiasm and anticipation. They listened..... Sometimes to "something", and sometimes to "nothing". They distinguished the difference between sounds and the vibrations that help carry them to our ears. To see them so interested and focused on this lesson, because of your generosity was so heartfelt. Thank you so very much for your thoughtfulness and generosity.”

My orchestra students are divided by grade level. There are approximately 23 students in each class (3 throughout the day). The choir students are also divided by grade level. There are approximately 17 students in each class (3 throughout the day also). Students are mostly African American and Hispanic. You have helped us become a viable class where students learn with the equipment, books and supplies they need. We are looking like musicians, sounding like musicians and are beginning to have the confidence musicians should have - this is all because of you and we're thankful. I believe every child should learn being, feeling, and looking good. When all criteria is not met it lowers their self-esteem. You have helped us become more confident. Because of their new-found confidence they are excited with the possibility of going to the Big Apple, to learn through workshops from a respected songwriter and conductor
