  • The Art Of Fusing Glass With Science

    Funded Sep 1, 2013

Thank you all for supporting the growth of my students. The students were very excited to work with glass and thought it was amazing that it could be fusing in a microwave oven. They made glass pin and pendants with the resources you all so graciously donated. They were able to enter several different contest and received multiple first place awards for this special project I was able to offer with all the support. The student could not wait to see the glass treasures they created as each piece came out of the microwave kilns. Not only did they learn about color as it relates to the arts, they also learned how the heat and melting/fusing changes the appearance of glass and color during the firing process as well as in the finished piece.”

  • Throwing Mud with Meaning! Teaching Ceramic Techniques

    Funded Feb 14, 2013

I must begin by saying, thank you. These two simple words have so much meaning behind them and it is such a shame they cannot be expressed with more impact over the Internet. All I can do is show you pictures and tell you about the wonderful experiences my students are having because of your generosity. Thank you for providing these children materials that will get them dirty; let them play in mud and create something they can take home and treasure for the rest of their lives.

I have taken the time to explain to all my students where these materials have come from. I have shown them who has given them the opportunities to succeed. They would like me to say "Thanks!" from the bottoms of their hearts. For I do believe they truly understand how important the contribution you made to them has effected them.”

  • Telling Autobiographies In Clay Tiles

    Funded Jan 29, 2013

I must start off by saying Thank you. Thank you for all the help you have given me and my students. Thank you Donor's Choose for being the vessel of my opportunities and more importantly thank you Horace Mann for matching our donation to make our supply dream possible! Thank you Caroline from Coral Gables for donating a giftcard to our classroom so we can use those funds to purchase the materials for our classroom. Our students have benefited so much from these tools and clay! They have eagerly jumped into the clay and begun working with their tools. Thank you so much for your support for our classroom.”

  • Fusing Art and Science! Teaching Glass Fusing Techniques

    Funded Jul 19, 2012

First off, I have to say thank you. Thank you so much for your kind donations. When my students received their glass fusion kits they immediately began working on their artwork. We began to work on creating over 1000 pins to donate to the Fine Arts Educators 2013 Convention. My students learned so much about science and art and it was all made possible by you. Thank you so much for your contributions.

I plan on using the glass kilns for years to come. These students will learn so much about science and glass fusing. Thank you once more!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Goldstein

We are an suburban school facing many academic challenges. I have found that by offering a hands-on experience students retain knowledge learned with a greater capacity. Our population is comprised of approximately 23% African American, 75% Latino/Hispanic, and 2% Other. These students are consistent low performers on state mandated testing reflecting a comprehension deficit.
