I'm requesting kid-friendly tablets to further cultivate a STEM/STEAM centered Makers Space library for my elementary students. These tablets will be utilized to enhance the technology side of our program. It will offer students a chance to learn coding and robotics as well as granting kids with an artistic bent opportunities to produce film, create digital photographs, and similar experiences. My goal as a librarian is to foster a love of learning by encouraging self learning, inititive, risk taking and creativity. A set of six kid friendly tablets will give our kids an opportunity to utilize programs designed for coding, programming, etc. without tying them to a specific location in our library. They will have the flexibility to move around, to better design routes for Sphero, produce videos using Sticky-Bot Studio, create book trailers and teasers for their class, or explore digital photography. I believe these tablets will be a valuable resource for encouraging ingenuity and a love for learning, in a place set up to let kids experiment with, adapt and revamp ideas. These are all skills that will make them better students and more successful citizens.
