  • Supplies for the Home Stretch

    Funded May 8, 2018

We made it! With your donations, we ended the school year with a bang. We were able to make artwork right up to the last day of school. Without the supplies you helped us purchase, we would have had to modify curriculum and I would have been paying out of my own pocket. I love feeling well supported so my students can freely express themselves without having to worry about running out of supplies. Thank you so much for supporting the arts. They are an invaluable part of the school day and of the education of our children.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ammons

  • Watercolor Wishes

    Funded May 17, 2018

I want to express my gratitude for the difference you have made in my classroom. With your donations, my students were able to replace the old watercolor paints with brand new sets. Each student can now have their own paint set, so they are learning more about mixing their own colors, and I am better able to see who is struggling with that concept. Each student has every color they can imagine, whereas before they often had two or three completely depleted colors. They have used them in two lessons already this year. One lesson was about the observational art of John James Audubon, and the other was a Japanese art lesson about Hiroshige and Hokusai. They are learning color theory, various watercolor application techniques, art history, creative problem solving, innovative approaches and proper use of materials. I wish you could have heard them cheer when I announced they didn't have to share their colors with a classmate. It was a priceless reaction.”

  • STEAMed About Climate Change

    Funded Nov 14, 2017

With your help, our STEAM Art Show is coming together! Students have created artistic mobiles from wind turbine kits, they have researched various topics about climate change, and they are currently working on some very creative compositions. Each student has one of the canvases you donated, and they are expressing their thoughts on current events, quotes, and political debates about global warming and changes to our climate. It is fun to see them looking into complex topics like EPA funding, international collaborations to promote solar energy, and even how the food system affects the climate. Their science teacher will be working with them to create engineering projects that are student-designed solutions to some of the problems they are researching. These will be displayed, along with the sculptures and paintings, in a school-wide event on Earth Day. Please know that the resources you have provided are making real change.”

  • Early Morning Artists

    Funded Oct 24, 2017

The first session of Art Club is winding down, and we have had tons of fun. Students participated in a community service project for the holidays, they made some fun clay creatures, and they painted pictures of foxes, fall leaves and the Eiffel Tower. I already have kids from session 2 asking me when their first day is. With your help, we have been well-stocked and have plenty of materials left for the next group to enjoy. Thank you for the generous donations that have sponsored a group of kids who are excited every week to be up an hour early to make art!”

  • Art Class Essentials

    Funded Jul 12, 2017

As I look back on the first five weeks of school, I am grateful for the generous donors who have made our program thrive. Each year, we think that the budget cannot be cut any more drastically, but each year we suffer more cuts. Our school is getting more crowded each year, and I can't help worrying what that means for the art program. What makes me feel the secure is that my school does not pay for any of our art materials. All of our materials come from donations and grants. Your donations are literally keeping my shelves stocked.

So far this year, your donations have enabled my third grade students to pull their first prints. They learned about Jose Posada and his black and white prints of skeletons and skulls that have inspired Dia de los Muertos imagery. The second graders have designed their own versions of the color wheel, and they have begun learning about art around the world, starting with Mexico and Japan. The middle school students used the clay to create hilarious clay busts of famous artists in a fun art history project.

Thank you for your support of the arts. Please know your kind gift has made a difference.”

  • Early Morning Artists

    Funded Oct 28, 2016

Thank you so much for your contribution to our art program. The art club has been able to do some fun painting, weaving, and craft projects including winter scenes, fall trees and fuzzy owls. They recently created decorations for United Airlines Fantasy Flight, an event that hosts children suffering from diseases like cancer. These children attend a fun party at the airport, and they receive gifts for the holidays. Our club's decorations made a difference for kids and families in our community! We have some quilling and clay projects coming up, and we have plenty canvases for more masterpieces. Thank you so much for helping to make this possible.”

  • Continuing Creativity

    Funded Jul 31, 2016

Thank you for your support of our school's art program.

I am beginning my 5th year with the students here, and I am thrilled to see how the program has grown over time. With donations from patrons like you, we have not only been able to keep our supply shelves stocked, but we have seen many young artists growing in talent and skill as they experiment with a variety of mediums and show their artwork around the city. The National Museum of Mexican Art, a gallery in the arts district, the local library and local restaurants have all showcased our artists' work. I recently had a 4th grade student donate money back to our program after selling some of her own original artwork! It is impossible for me to express how proud I am of our artists. Without outside support like yours, declining budgets for our schools would be holding us back. Instead, we are strong and thriving. Thank you so much!”

  • Annual Auction Art Assistance

    Funded Dec 7, 2015

Thank you for your support of our art classroom! With your donations, we purchased canvases for all 12 classrooms in our school. Each classroom created a collaborative painting that was auctioned off at a parent-run fundraiser. The auction was a huge success, and it made it possible for us to purchase things like a new sound system for our auditorium/gym, canvas storage systems for the art room, and classroom materials for homeroom teachers. Our art program is run, in large part, by the generous contributions made by patrons like you. I hope you can feel confident that your donations have been put to good use by some amazing young artists!”

  • Safe Seats for Small Students

    Funded Dec 2, 2015

I cannot begin to explain the impact it has had on our art room to have safe and sturdy seating. The new stools purchased with your help have opened up space in a crowded classroom. They have made it much easier to rearrange seating for various groups coming in and out of the room. Most importantly, they are much more appropriate in size for our younger students. The older students pointed out that it is much easier to turn and see me when I am teaching in different areas around the room. Thank you so much for thinking of us and for supporting our young artists. They have had a productive year in our studio classroom, and I look forward to seeing what the rest of the year brings out in the young artists!”

  • Safe Seating for Small Students

    Funded Mar 15, 2015

Thank you so much for your support on this project. Before we had the stools given to us by this grant, the classroom was crowded with chairs. I would walk into them all day, the students would sit in them in unsafe ways, and they were too large for our younger students. I added the stools to the center of the classroom, opening up the work space. The kids immediately told me how much easier it was to turn around to look at the projector screen or the board. The kindergarten students can sit without their feet swinging in the air. It has made a great improvement to our work space. Thanks so much for thinking of us and for your continued support as we prepare for the fall!

    Sincerely,

    Beth Ammons”

Our unique school, a literature and writing school, aims to nurture creative minds and caring hearts that contribute significantly to their communities through: rich and rigorous academic experiences that are tailored to individual needs, divergent thinking and artistic expression, work in collaborative teams, and supportive partnerships. The 250 K-8th grade students at Prescott come from the urban neighborhoods surrounding the school campus. Like most schools, our school operates on a tight budget which requires teachers to reach out for support and for resources. The art room is a valuable site for enrichment of classroom learning, and we work hard to bring all subjects into each hands-on activity the students complete. Here, we can offer the chance for students to develop their critical thinking and creative problem solving skills, while expressing themselves through the arts.
