Crafty Kids
Funded Apr 24, 2025Thank you for your generous donation to my classroom. My students deserve the best art programming possible, and I am more equipped to provide this with your gift. We still have several weeks left in the school year. This will help keep us going! I truly appreciate your kind support.”

Funded Feb 20, 2025Thank you for helping us get this paper. Imagine me sitting on the floor of my classroom, cutting bulletin board paper into small pieces for the students to draw on. This was happening after I ran out of coworkers to borrow from! Now we can use the right materials, and my prep time will be more efficient! We need so much help with continued budget cuts, and I am thankful for your generous help.”

Sculpting School Connections
Funded Oct 27, 2024Your donation has helped us keep a well-rounded curriculum in place. Without tools like clay, students are not exposed to artmaking techniques that span beyond paper and basic tools. Many students thrive when offered a more hands-on and tactile medium like clay. The excitement that is expressed when I get the clay materials out is unmatched by any other material during the school year. They get to be a little bit messy, get their hands dirty and let their creative juices flow freely as they work on 3-D sculpture and pottery projects. Thank you for helping us through a tough year, and thank you for supporting the arts.”

Healing After Helene
Funded Oct 22, 2024My students finished this project, and I feel great about how much we all learned along the way. The first week, students painted expressively. We played music and painted exactly how we felt using lines, shapes and colors connecting with our moods. This felt therapeudic as we all readjusted to being back at school. It was fun to have the kids choose one word to describe what they had painted and share that word as we looked at their paintings. The second week, we added collage items. We talked a lot about debris. There was so much debris on the sides of roads around our neighborhoods, and it was like seeing people's lives in piles. We made connections between rebuilding and repairing as we build and pieced our collage items onto our paintings. The third and final layer was an outer layer to represent our outer selves. We talked about how we have layers to our feelings and personalities just like our artwork depicts layers of our experiences this year. I had their work on display for the school community to see, and we exhibited it with our district's mission: Together We Rise. I am now distributing smaller numbers of the projects to places in our community that want to display artwork from the hurricane. I hope this helps show how resilient our students are, and I hope they remember this project as something special they did with friends as things got back to "normal". Thank you so much for making this possible for some great kids.”

Smart Start in Art
Funded Oct 18, 2024Monday we will return to school after a much-needed winter break. It has been a memorable school year because of Hurricane Helene, but I feel like we are back on track. I wanted to take a minute to share with you the impact your generous donation has made in my classroom. My students love art, and they tell me regularly how excited they are to come to class. We have been painting, drawing, sculpting and collaging colorful masterpieces that tie in with classroom learning. One example is second grade classes, who learn about changing seasons in their classrooms. When their teacher was having them experiment and write about why leaves change color, in art class we sculpted paper bag fall trees and did texture rubbings of leaves as a background for fun bear drawings. This was especially fun because it connected with their personal bear sightings around the region and encouraged some fun stories from kids who had seen bears first-hand this fall. Thank you for making lessons like these possible through the donation of basic art materials that are essential for our program. You truly made a difference.”

Funded Dec 5, 2023Thank you so much for your donations. Five classes of fourth graders used the clay to make mini lighthouses inspired by North Carolina's Outer Banks. Their imaginations shined as they added sharks, cliffs, exotic plants, and other fun details to their work. They used the paint to mix colors, so they practiced color theory as they brought their work to life with color. Six of the clay projects will be displayed at the local mall as part of a district art show! The third graders will be next to use the clay. I have a fun bird-themed project lined up for them! Thank you for your support, and happy Youth Art Month!”

Funded Aug 24, 2023I want to offer sincere thanks for your generous donation to my new classroom. The lack of funding I have received this year has been a shock, and I have had more out-of-pocket expenses than I am used to. Your help with this project was a huge relief starting the school year, and I have enjoyed getting to know 500+ little artists through the artwork they have been making with the supplies you helped provide. They have done a lot of painting and drawing as I continue to raise funds for clay, but they are excited each week to see what we will learn. Kindergarten students have done mostly seasonal projects based on basic art elements and children's literature. First graders have explored various cultures around the world. Second and third graders have been learning color theory and painting techniques, and fourth graders have done two really amazing projects that tie in with North Carolina history. Your thoughtful gift to these students is appreciated and is being put to good use every day in a VERY busy art room. Thank you so much.”

Illustrating Identity
Funded Nov 28, 2022This project was a success because of your generous donation. Students learned to identify stereotypes and reflected on times they have felt like people made assumptions about them. They discussed how getting to know what makes each one of us unique is a great way to combat stereotypes. In these art pieces, they drew their eyes and added fingerprints so they each had unique images. They added symbols or artifacts of their interests, hobbies, cultures, religions or dreams to help teach people what makes them unique. I learned so much about them from this lesson, and I hope they had fun learning about each other. Thank you for making this possible.”

Studio Essentials
Funded Sep 21, 2022Every year, our class schedule changes. It is understandable considering all of the special programs that our school offers, but it makes ordering supplies a challenge. To plan ahead, we need to know which students we will have, how many weeks we will have them, and which projects will be the most important to tackle. No matter how much planning I do, I am never able to predict everything that I will need. Without Donors Choose, this would leave me in a tough situation. With your help, we have been able to keep our shelves stocked with essential materials. We have had a productive year, and have had everything we needed to complete some memorable projects. Please know your generosity has helped to make our school year better.”

Stock Student Smocks
Funded Aug 31, 2022Thank you for your help with the funding of this project. The classroom smocks were knotted and torn, and now they are fresh and new. The students were excited to wear them and felt special to be the first class to try them out. I know parents appreciate smocks because uniform shirts can be tough to keep stocked throughout the year. Having the option to put on a smock makes everyone feel better! Some of the projects we did while the smocks have been in use include color mixing with tempera paint, basic hand building techniques with clay, and watercolor resist paintings. You made this possible for some very excited little artists.”
