Backpacks Needed for a Great Start to the School Year!

Thanks to your donations, we have purchased almost 200 backpacks for the students at John Webster School! The parents we extremely grateful to received the backpacks for their children. We gave out the backpacks during our weekly food distribution from Philabundance. Families not only school bags but fresh vegetables, whole watermelons and dry and canned goods.

I am a School Counselor working low income population, high poverty population in Philadelphia. I service students in grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade. The student population is around 900 students. All students receive Title One Funding and receive free meals for breakfast and lunch. The area of Kensington where Webster resides faces extreme challenges such as a high level of crime, drugs and issues surrounding poverty and mental health. My students are very eager to learn! They enjoy hands on activities and moving around the classroom. They come to school every day with smiles on their faces and know that school is a safe place to learn.
