  • Varsity Girls Team Needs New Balls

  • Guitars For Urban High School

    Funded Feb 19, 2015

    I am so sorry to send such a late thank you, but I have finally implemented the use of our new guitars in an after school guitar club!!! While originally I had 3 students sign up, I now have 7-10 students (and more!) on a weekly basis come to play and are excited to be learning. While most students will never have a chance to obtain weekly private lessons, this gives them something extra to help them have well-rounded educated lives. One of the best quotes from my students this week is "Wow, I never realized how music making requires everyone to work together." Another student, upon having the guitar in her hands said "My life is now complete." It's amazing to see students' brains firing neurons to make the hand-eye coordination to make wonderful sounds on the guitars!

    Having your generosity has made our school environment just that more amazing. I can't wait to put on our first concert!!”

My students are creative, talented, eager to learn, collaborative workers. They look forward to new ideas, and they sing and dance every moment a jam comes through the speakers. Creativity is the highest form of understanding. They want to know how to create music like the masters of our time. The skills used in playing a musical instrument have been proven hundreds of times to increase test scores, literacy, math skills and so on. It's time our school brings back music through instrument study!

About my class
