  • Interactive Math Games

    Funded Apr 29, 2014

I want to begin this note by thanking you once again for donating to my project and supporting my classroom. I am grateful to every single one of you.

My students love computers and games. So, what is better than computer games? Every time that they can, my students ask to play with games. I don't mind because they are learning as they are playing. These games allow my students to learn and review numbers, one to one correspondence, sorting and patters. They will also be able to practice addition and subtraction a bit latter on during the school year. My students are also learning to be more independent and in charge of their own learning.

Once again thank you for supporting us and God Bless you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Murillo Penarrieta

  • Interactive Notebooks In Kindergarten

    Funded Aug 29, 2014

I am so happy that you chose my classroom to support. My students and I are so grateful to you. Thank you so much! When I told my students that our notebooks were on their way, they cheered very loudly. They didn't really know what the notebooks were for, but they still cheered.

We have begun to use our notebooks for math, science, and reading and language arts. Interactive notebooks are wonderful teaching tools because the students are actively engaged in their learning. They are coloring, cutting, gluing and absorbing information. For me, they allow me to track their growth throughout the year. All their work is in one place so I can easily see growth form the beginning of the year to the end.

Thank you for supporting my students and my your good deed be returned to you ten fold. God Bless you and have a wonderful weekend.”

  • Computer Time For Kindergartners, 2

    Funded Sep 15, 2014

Thank you to the wonderful donors who came together to help fund this wonderful project. It fills my heart with joy to see the outpouring of support that is given to my students. Thank you for having a big heart and for sharing it with us.

We just received our MacBook Pro. As soon as it was delivered to our classroom, I set it up and had my students began to use it. They were very excited to learn that this computer was going to be for their use. During math time, we played some interactive computer games that helped my students recognize numbers. During language arts time, we also played interactive games that helped them learn the letter names and sounds. I hope to have my students use the MacBook pro every day in my classroom

I thank you once again for your support and dedication to my students and public education. God bless you and may your good deed be returned to you ten fold.”

    With gratitude,

  • Document Camera to the Rescue

    Funded Sep 15, 2014

I still can't believe that I was flashfunded! Thanks to your generosity, our document reader project was funded.

Our document reader just arrived and we couldn't be happier. Having a document reader has transformed the way my students take part in lessons and the way I present information to my students.

My students are able to more easily follow along when we are working in our workbook or worksheets. They are able to share their work with their peers and make presentations. I am able to use the document reader to teach mini writing and math lessons. I am also able to put a book under the document reader and have the kids follow along. This has made reading time go smoother.

One again, I thank you for your support to my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Murillo Penarrieta

  • Projecting Our Learning

    Funded Sep 15, 2014

I am still in disbelieve that GoogleLA funded all the LAUSD projects. Thanks to your generosity, my students have their much needed EPSON projector.

Our projector arrived only yesterday and we have already used it several times. When my students first saw the projector, the first thing they wanted to do was make shadow puppets. So, I went ahead and let them have a go at it for five minutes. Once my students got that out of their system, I went ahead and showed them what the projector was really for. They loved seeing their favorite computer games be projected on the white board. I also connected my document reader to the projector and my students were able to follow more easily what they needed to do on their workbooks. I can't wait to use my projector everyday.

Once a gain, thank you for your wonderful gift!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Murillo Penarrieta

  • Awards, Certificates, and Incentives, part 2

    Funded Aug 10, 2014

We have received our awesome stickers, awards, incentives and certificates. Thank you for making this happen. My students are so happy and motivated to not only behave well but most importantly to achieve academic excellence. When I showed my students the different awards they could receive, they cheered and said that they would be getting 100% on their next spelling test. Sometimes it takes a little extrinsic motivation such as stickers and prizes to get the results that teachers want. The certificates are a big hit with my students and parents too. My students' parents feel very happy and proud when their children take certificates home. This project has made everyone happy: students, parents and me! Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Murillo Penarrieta

  • EPSON Interactive Board

    Funded Dec 14, 2013

We are the envy of our school! Everyone wishes that they, too, had an Epson interactive board like we do. My students and I just love it! In fact, my students love it so much that they want to use it on a daily basis. Because it is such a big hit, I am trying to purchase new interactive games to use with it. We can use games that teach and review everything from language and literacy to math and science skills and concepts. My students think that they are playing when in reality they are learning. Learning has never been more fun in our classroom!

I want to thank each and every single one of you for your contribution in helping to fund this project. Your support to my classroom is greatly appreciated. Once again thank you and have a wonderful day.”

  • Color Ink For Language Development: Black

    Funded Mar 1, 2014

I still can't believe that we beat the dreaded red clock! Thank you so much for helping us do so. It overwhelms me to know that there are so many kind and generous souls, like yourself, who care so much about public education. Thanks to you, we now have color ink. Not only does color ink add beauty to our classroom, but it also aids in my students' acquisition of language.

I use many pictures and photographs during English language development time. I find that when the pictures/photographs are in color ink, the more conversation there is. There is more conversation between my students because the details in the pictures are enhanced by the color. I hear many "oohs and aahs" as I show the pictures. My students are ready to describe what they see! And, the more talk there is, the more learning there is!

Once again, thank you for your kind support to my classroom. Have a beautiful day!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Murillo Penarrieta

My students approach life with the enthusiasm and curiosity that all five-year-old children seem to have in abundance. Despite living in a low socioeconomic area where their parents struggle to make ends meet, they are incredibly hopeful and looking forward to the future. Their parents want the best education possible for them, but due to financial constraints, many cannot afford to have many books or technology at home. It is up to me and the school to provide these wonderful, amazing, eager, and bright kids with a wide selection of literature and technology to enjoy. We are a Title 1 school, which means that we do get funds to improve the academic achievement of the disadvantage, but not enough to provide every classroom with a well stocked classroom library and much less with LeapFrog Technology. These kids will be our future leaders. They deserve to have their curiosity fed through literature and technology. The LeapFrog Tag Technology is a great tool to go about it.
