Let's Encourage Our Future Scientists, Engineer & Mathematicians!
Funded Sep 30, 2020This school year my students are excited to have essential hands on materials and books to enrich Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) learning. They are going to explore animal cells, animal informational books, weather, coding, fossils and heredity.
My student will deepen their knowledge about plants using a magnetic diagram of the lifecycle and books. They will learn how plant develop from seeds to plants.
They will also explore fascinating facts of the human body with a model and learn about traits that students have in our class. They will also learn about a variety of animals.
In addition, they will begin learning to code by reading books about coding and by utilizing two robots. I am hoping that exposing them to STEM fields will expand their career choices. They are going to read about inventions and This will undoubtably be the most exciting part of learning about technology. Having all these resources will also enhance my teaching.”

Funded Jul 14, 2020First of all, THANK YOU for providing our classroom with multicultural books that help my latino students understand others. My students are enjoying listening to engaging books via zoom for now. In addition to reading about latinos like themselves, such as Justice Sonia Sotomayor. They are also learning about important African Americans. I know that this is important so they can be informed and compassionate people.
Usually, reading in my class when we are physically in the classroom is fun because I give my students time to ready books of their choice and slowly build up their reading stamina. I get them to love reading by challenging them to read silently more and more each day. Thanks to the variety of books provided by this project, I know my students will be more excited about reading.
Some of my students have told me that after hearing some the stories, now they are considering new careers. They are also more inspired and motivated to attend college in the future.”

Funded Sep 30, 2020Thank you so much for all the non-fiction books that I received to encourage civic engagement in my third grade classroom. My students and I are grateful and excited to have such an awesome set of engaging children's literature that explains complicated topics about government in such an interesting and kid friendly manner.
Currently because I am teaching remotely, I use the books to read aloud. I have to say that these books arrived at the perfect time, about a month and a half before elections. My students have been able to make lots of connections between the books and the current politics in our nation, namely the Presidential election and the death of the late Ruth Bader Ginsberg.
Some of my students have enjoyed the books so much that they are looking forward to going back to school in person and reading the books in class. Thank you so much!”

We were elated to see all the boxes arrive with beautiful rainbow organizers for our supplies, trays, succulent bulletin board borders, inspirational phrases and scented markers!
For now, I am using some of the materials to organize books that I used to teach, scented markers to make my charts and to teach art lessons.
Once I am back in the classroom, I will use all the materials and my students will be overjoyed to have a well stocked, organized and beautiful classroom!”

Our second lesson was a Kandinsky concentric circles lesson using white construction paper, crayons and markers to imitate Kandinsky's Abstract art style.
They are excited to know that they will we be experimenting with different art materials like acrylics and water colors to create flower drawings which bleed out of the page inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe. I have shown them close up pictures of flowers from my garden to motivate them.
Our next lessons will involve using our imagination and watercolors. They will learn to use watercolors to express themselves freely. I teach my students to use art time as a time to relax as they create. Finally, we will frame some of their art so they can decorate their homes.”

Funded Mar 23, 2020When I applied for these resources, I told a friend of mine, Angela that it would be nice to give our middle students their sanitary products in a pretty bag. She is a retired seamstress. We worked together to cut the material and she sewed 40 small bags for the middle school girls in our school. Another teacher at the school offered her mother, Isabel to crochet additional bags for me.
The girls were elated to receive their bag and sanitary products during the Grab and Go event when they came to pick up school materials. These items will be helpful to the families in the community where I teach since a lot of parents are currently unemployed.
The College and Career Coach and I passed out these items and we will plan other activities to encourage our middle school girls. We will be working with them to build up their self-esteem. We hope that all these young ladies will feel supported and attend college in the future.”

Funded May 28, 2020Thanks to your generosity, I was able to prepare goody bags with snacks for my students. It was wonderful to see my students in person! I had not seen them since March 13, 2020. I was happy to see them even though they were wearing masks. I told them, "smile with your eyes!' as I took their picture, that make them laugh! It was awesome to see their joyful body language as they held up their bags full of snacks, which included fruit snacks, chips, cookies, granola bars, tuna, trail mix, macaroni and cheese and more... I made a few home deliveries and it was wonderful to see where they live. When I passed out their snacks, my heart was full. I wrote each one a note that said, You're amazing with a personal message to wish them a happy end of the school year. My students send you lots of gratitude your way, I have taught them to reflect daily on the positive things that happen to them. Donors from Donors Choose are on the top of their list of appreciation.”

Funded Mar 6, 2020My students and I were pleasantly surprised to receive our books so promptly! THANK YOU! We started using the books on the very first day. As soon as I opened the boxes, they asked if they could read the new books.
They are using them to read individually for reading stamina time, in small groups and I am going to read all the fairytale to inspire them as they write their own fairytale adaptations. It will be so fun to see how my authors will be inspired by hearing these classic fairytales in English and Spanish. They read silently, aloud and then discuss the story themes, characters and problems and solutions.
Diego said, "Oh my God" Huevos verdes con jamón, that's my favorite book!"
Daniela said, "I can't wait to read about my favorite princesses in my favorite fairytales in these bilingual editions. Ruby stated, "These Spanish dictionary are perfect for us!"
Thank you to all donors from the bottom of our hearts. I hope that when you see the joy on my students' faces you will feel that you made a great decision by supporting out classroom. Their facial expressions and enthusiam are simply priceless!”

Funded Feb 12, 2020My students are using the graphic toon books to read daily in our classroom! It's not a struggle to get them to read anymore because they are anxious to read each book over and over again. The first day that we received the box of books my students expressed their joy with huge smiles and their eagerness to start reading right away.
Their reactions are simply impossible to be accurately captured. Some of my students were literally jumping and dancing around the classroom. They always are so grateful to know that people like you care about providing them with wonderful resources that enrich their learning.
This fabulous set of beautiful hard bound books also came with individual books for each of my students to learn how to draw. It is so amazing to see my students so engaged and excited about reading. We are so appreciative of your kindness and your support of public education!

Funded Jun 26, 2019My students have been more excited than ever to play outdoors! They were so curious about opening each of the boxes as they arrived. They love playing Jenga indoors, and learning to work as a team with bean bags and in baseball games.
They play baseball using the bases, baseball and batting machine that were purchase thanks to each one of you. They can't help but to smile. They have noticed that their baseball skills have improved since the first time we played at the beginning of the school year. The first time we used the batting machine they were surprised by the speed and we had to adjust it. All the students giggled nervously as they tried to hit the baseball. Having all this equipment has made teaching physical education more fun!
In my classroom we have been practicing breathing exercises, and as soon as we have enough yoga mats, I will begin teaching them yoga. I'm very happy to have the resources to make my teaching more interesting. We are going to take turns using the fitness trackers to motivate students to be more physically active. Thank you again for contributing to our classroom! My students and I truly appreciate your generosity!”
