  • Let's Nurture Social Emotional Learning and Bilingualism!

    Funded Dec 23, 2024

Post pandemic our students' social emotional needs have become an urgent priority to address at school. The books provided to our school through this project have provided us with wonderful tools to teach students to identify, label and learn ways to manage their emotions.

Sharing books about emotions has created many opportunities for students to emphatize with their peers and to create a sense of community . In addition, the bilingual books and the books about diverse cultures that we received through this project are teaching us to be proud of our heritage and to appreciate the diversity of people living in the United States.

Karla shared with me that she feels treasured by her father and valued by her sisters when they take time to play with her.”

  • Wonderful And Cozy Winter Time!

    Funded Dec 2, 2024

This project was funded at the perfect time for us in California. Students were so elated to receive resources to keep them warm as the winter was about to begin. Their smiles reflect the joy they felt when they received these early holiday gifts. All the children were super excited as they selected a scarf and a beanie to keep them warm and cozy during this cold weather. They were pleasantly surprised to know that there are donors out there that care about them being warm and happy. Thank you for your generosity!”

  • It's Okay to Have Feelings!

    Funded Oct 3, 2024

These resources have been extremely helpful to our students in so many ways to help them identify and regulate their feelings! They loved all the hands-on resources like the pop its, calming tubes and feelings tent.

The most helpful of all has been the I feel and I can tent with pictures. It is a tool that has been helpful for students ages 5 to 13 years olds. I found that the visuals give students time to calm down while giving them the opportunity to name their emotions and then identify a strategy that is helpful to them to overcome or deal with their feelings. The calming ball is awesome because when students shake the ball it gives them different strategies to deal with their emotions in positive ways. These resources have been valuable additions to our calming corner.

    Thank you for your generosity!”

  • Relaxing in the Garden

    Funded Mar 27, 2024

Getting this project funded motivated us to begin working on our garden at school. We were able to get some parents and students to come on a Saturday to help us weed flower beds. Our fifth graders, teacher assistants and teachers were super excited to put together the trellis flower beds. We will now reach out to local nurseries to donate some plants to plant in our garden.

This project is so fun because it has allowed us to involve different interest holders in our community school to beautify our school. We are all learning that collaborating with community opens up many possibilities.

Thank you so much for you generosity.

    Sincerely,

    Ms. Martinez”

  • Bring on the Cold Weather!

    Funded Jan 8, 2024

Thank you so much for providing our students with warm jackets. Our students bright smiles say it all! They are so happy to be wearing their new jackets during this rainy winter.

Your generosity has provided warmth and care to our students. They feel loved and cared for by you.

They are amazed that strangers would care enough to worry if they are feeling cold and that they stay dry. Your contribution has made it possible for them to attend school during this unusual rainy season in California. Thank you for your generosity!”

  • Leading Our School With Full Bellies

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

This project provided snacks to our student council students in 5th grade and to our Leadership student in 6th-8th grade.

All the students were pleasantly surprised to receive snacks from donors like you. They were happy to snack on their treats will working on posters, banners and while planning school spirit activities for our school.

Our students are excited to know that they can share about Donors Choose with their families and friends. Maybe once they are working they themselves will donate to your site. The majority of the students had not heard about Donors Choose and they are know thinking about possible projects that they can suggest to their lead teachers to write up.”

  • Don't Go Hungry, Ask for a Snack!

    Funded Jan 8, 2024

The project "Don't Go Hungry, Ask for a Snack! has been an absolute hit with our students. Students are so elated to know that if they are feeling hungry, they can come to me. Students were beaming with happiness when they found out that people who don't know them personally care enough to send them snacks!

Students at our school will be encouraged to give back to their community by donating to non-profit organizations through our yearly Sharing Bring Hope Campaign.

Thank you so much for your generosity and for making a difference at our school.”

  • Look Good, Feel Good!

    Funded Feb 5, 2023

Our students have been so pleased to have these hygiene kits available to them at school! They live in a poor neighborhood where many families live doubled up with friends or relatives in order to afford rent payments. As you can imagine sometimes it's a hardship to buy basic hygiene items for these families.

Our homeless and foster youth students are always in need of these basic items. Students as well as parents are grateful to receive these much needed resources.

These resources are helpful while teaching students self-care such as dental hygiene and for some it is exciting to have deodorant and their personal grooming items. Our school believes in helping anyone in the community who is in need, thank you for making this project a reality. I know that our students will be more generous adults because of the kindness they experience every time a project is funded via DonorsChoose.”

My students attend a K-8 span school located in Southern California. The 1,100 students who attend our school are latinos who all qualify for free meals. Our school is designated as a Title 1 school due to the highly empoverish area. The majority of our students are first generation Americans and the others are newly arrived immigrants from Mexico and Central America. Most families live in apartments and often live with other families in very small quarters. Due to the limited economic resources at home, students at our school obtain most of their enrichment via field trips or unique events planned by the school or teachers in their classrooms.
