  • Say Cheese, No Bullying!

    Funded Mar 20, 2012

Thank you very much for your generous contribution towards our class project, Say Cheese, No Bullying!. The camera (on the iPad) and books are wonderful. The students can now do many activities to improve their knowledge of bullying.

We were very fortunate to already receive a camera for our prior bullying project. We never imagined that both projects would be funded. To better suit the needs of the students Best Buys was generous enough to exchange the camera and a Nook tablet from another project for an iPad that has both a camera and an application to read books like the Nook. I found the Nook not to be very compatible for my students and to purchase books was very expensive for a teacher. The iPad is a better resource for my to use with my students to teach them about bullying.

The book, "Bullying in Schools" is continuing to inform my students on issues about bullying. The students are learning how to deal with this important topic inside and outside of the classroom. The Grimm Fairy Tales are continuing to give them the love of stories and building their confidence. The camera on the iPad is even better than a regular camera because now they can cut and edit their pictures and videos on bullying. They are having such fun writing their scripts and acting it out. The large screen on the iPad makes it more accessible than a regular camera. They are becoming masters on this important topic of bullying by creating videos on their new device. The children are enjoying to see each others scripts when they are done with their project. Now they are more aware about bullying and are better prepared to stand up to bullies.

The children and I appreciate all of your donations. Your generosity has broaden our resources to learn about an important topic that is facing the schools in our nation. Thanks a million!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ben-Nissan

  • Read All About It, Stop Bullying Two!

    Funded Mar 21, 2012

Thank you very much for your generous contribution towards our class project, Read All About It, Stop Bullying Two. The books on bullying and the chapter books are wonderful. The children can now read about this important topic and enjoy classic chapter books as a whole class.

The book, Bullying in Schools is informing my students on this important topic. After we read an example from the book, the children are engaged in discussion about what they have learned. They are also eager to write stories that involve problems and solutions to this important topic. My students' confidence is strengthening every time we read more books on bullying and then discuss the problem and solutions.

The chapter books accompanied with the CD is being used with my struggling readers to build their confidence in reading chapter books like the rest of my students. They are enjoying to listen to the chapter books and not worry about reading such a long story. They are eager to participate in class discussions because now they can hear and understand the story rather that focus on decoding the words. Now they are not getting starts from other students because they are able to participate like good readers.

The multicultural books are enriching my students with the love of reading stories from around the world. They are learning to respect other cultures no matter how different they are. When students' confidence is built, there will be less bullying to go around.

The children and I appreciate all of your donations. Your generosity has broaden our resources to learn about an important topic that is facing the schools in our nation. Thanks a million!”

  • iPad for Diversity

    Funded May 11, 2012

There are not enough words to thank all of your for your generous donations. This project would not be funded without all of your support. I can't wait to tell the children that new technology will enter our classroom.

Now my students will have quick access to the world by using the iPad to learn about civil rights and diversity. Not only will they be able to read books on these topics but they will be able to go on line and research about civil right leaders. My students will also be tech savvy by getting to video their parents in an interview and then cut and edit so that it can be shared with their classmates.

You all, have made it possible for my students to catch up to the rest of the country with technology and be better prepared for the future that lies ahead.

Thank you again and again for your generous donations!”

The students come from a mostly lower socioeconomic demographic, and many do not speak English at home. Our school does its best to inspire the kids and bring the curriculum to life. But the challenges of limited budgets and language barriers make that mission difficult.
