Young elementary children learn best through doing. They learn through experiencing and feeling the world around them. Sensory bins will create endless opportunities for play, discovery, and learning in the classroom. We will use the sensory bins for opportunities for dramatic play. They will be used to review letters, sight words, numbers, practice counting objects, and so much more. Sight words, pictures, other objects, and so much more can be hidden among the sensory toys for students to discover or review. The sensory bins are small enough that they can work individually or in small groups. I have several students learning English as a second language. Sensory bins create wonderful play and speaking practice opportunities. Students can practice describing the things that they are seeing and feeling. They can practice describing where objects are located. They can practice social language as they engage in play with other students. Having these sensory bins will provide so many learning opportunities for the kindergartners at my school.
