Have you ever had a student who just couldn't sit still? So have I. As good teachers do, we try multiple strategies to meet the needs of each and every students. But I have come to a road block with some because an office chair, a regular stool, or a spot on the floor are just not flexible enough for all learning styles. In my classroom, the success of all of my students is important, so I am trying to add a choice that will be just right for my wiggling students in order for them to also be successful. Some students need to move around while they work to stay focused. My hope is that these stools will keep students from getting out of their seat and walking around because the stools allow them to move about while also sitting. My hope is that this will give students a more positive choice rather than leaning back in their seat. Students that lean in their chairs or wiggle around are attempting to release energy or are distracted because of the build up in energy. Thus, these chairs can help the students to move about without falling out of their seat or the teacher having to redirect the attention of the students which in the end gives the students opportunity to be self-learners, who keep themselves focused on their learning in a seat that meets their learning style. However, some opportunities can be expensive, and my district can not afford these nor can my school or myself. I know this is a stretch but it is a goal of mine and like I teach students, I have to go after my goals despite financial challenges.
