Fantastic Flexible Seating
Funded Dec 4, 2024I wanted to let you all know how much my class appreciates the items for our Fantastic Flexible Seating project and also to let you know how my students are using the chairs and our new rug.
Flexible seating offers students a change from sitting at desks all day. The six chairs have been a big hit. We decided to share the chairs by assigning them to six students daily and rotating them throughout the week. This allows students to have a chair for the day at least once or twice a week. Students may bring the chairs to other room areas throughout the day to make it flexible. The carpet in our book nook makes a comfortable spot for students to sit on the floor with cushions to read our complete group assignments.
There was a lot of excitement when the students first saw the chairs and rug. They couldn't wait to try them out. My next steps are to continue building up these spaces in my classroom with a low table and more floor seating.”

Funded Oct 11, 2023The children love the new carpet and the opportunity to move from their desks during the day. We use it daily for whole-group foundational literacy, math interactives, social studies presentations, and teacher read-alouds. It provides students with a close-up view of the Promethean board. For example, we started doing a math warm-up activity with interactive practice on the carpet instead of desks. Students were much more engaged on the carpet and cheered each other on as they solved math problems.
"Wow! Look at our new rug!" many students exclaimed when they first saw it. They also love independent reading or working with partners on the carpet. It has added a positive change to our seating in the classroom.
We are going to continue utilizing the carpet space in different ways. For example, we recently used it to work with partners to revise a process writing piece about the job of the president of the United States. Thank you for your contributions to our project.”
